What's your take on naked babies on the beach? I always thought it was normal, but my friend recently took her 11 month old to the beach naked and got a bunch of comments about it. What do you think?

I wouldn't do it, personally. I don't know that I would judge another mom for doing it though. I, personally, just worry about creepers staring...

Nay. Littles need help keeping as much sand as possible out, and something needs to contain pee and such. And really, your child deserves the opportunity to maintain his/her bodily integrity.

No. I don't see the need to keep a baby totally naked.
We were at a beach recently and there was a totally butt naked little boy running around - he must have been like 5 or 6. I was surprised his parents didn't mind one bit

Nope. I think its a bit rude if LOs are peeing/pooping everywhere. They can't help it, so diapers are a must IMHO.

I wouldn't - too much sun exposure and it's unhygienic unless the child is toilet trained. Now if it was just being naked whilst changing to/from swim clothes, that's not an issue, but running around naked, yeah, I'm not a fan.

Must have a diaper on, I'm not a fan of completely naked babies, I feel bad for them.

Nay.
Sun exposure, sand in uncomfortable places, nothing to catch pee/poop...

I've never seen a naked baby at the beach, either. I would keep a diaper on for pee/poop.

The nakedness wouldn't bother me at all, but I wouldn't do it just because of the additional sun exposure.

It wouldn't bug me, and I'm sure I'd let LO do it. But I'd be a little worried about sand in crevices. Though I doubt a diaper would prevent that.

I vote nay only because of the sand-in-sensitive-bits issue, not from a modesty issue.

Whaaaaaaat? Totally a 'yay' for me. I love swimming nekkie, seems pretty normal for an under-5-year-old to do...

Diaper at a minimum. Buuuuut, if it was a baby-baby (like, 3-8 months old), under a shaded area with his/her parents, then I think it's cute. Baby skin needs to breathe, right?? But babies/kids running/crawling around in the sand naked bugs me a little.

I don't want sand in my vajayjay and I don't want baby girl to have sand in hers either, so nay. I don't think its bad, just seems not well thought out I guess. Plus I try not to over expose others to my kids bowel movements and such so no diaper is a no no for me.

Nay. Issue 1 = skin protection. Issue 2= sand in the vag. I was really sensitive down there as a toddler (couldn't even take bubble baths) so sand down there would've been no bueno.

I would worry about sun exposure and sand but in general i have no issue with it.

Under a year, I would worry about that precious skin!

I don't see a problem in terms of modesty if that's what the comments were about - but I do think it isn't ideal for skin protection.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
Nope, stick a diaper on. No one needs to stand in baby poop. I also think a rash guard is needed for sun protection personally.

totally a yay. i lived in miami beach for a long time and it was very typical for littles to be in the buff at the beach. Of course, south beach was very european. I think Americans are a little uptight about nudity.
I wouldn't worry so much about sand in the "crevices", as my 2 yr old somehow manages to fill her swimsuit with sand when we are at the beach anyhow.

I wouldn't want to step in baby poop but I think some of you might be under some major illusions when it comes to the cleanliness of sand!
pomegranate / 3127 posts
Seems normal in my neighborhood! We just made sure to bathe LO as soon as we got home.
pineapple / 12053 posts
i wouldn't care if i saw another kiddo like that (voted yay) and i've changed my DD while at the beach, but +1 for more skin protection and +2 for sand in the crotch protection!

Nay! sun exposure on Skin! And just like you shouldn't let your dog pee and poop everywhere you shouldn't let your baby either. I think that's just common courtesy.

There's too many unknowns at the beach (pedophiles and such) I wouldn't let LO run around naked
