I think that if you are going to be living somewhere else entirely it is a non issue even if you do have mutual friends. I would probably still tell them in advance but I would use it anyway.

From their perspective, I would probably be a bit bothered but realize that this small group of mutual friends is the only set of people in our lives that would really even know of the overlap, and as work friends they probably aren't even forever friends. I feel like that means the name is still totally fair game.
