I know what this is called in my native dialect. But I would love to know the English name. My best guess is it's definitely part of the squash family.
Any guesses?

@tofuwad: @Freckles: bitter melon is a much lighter green and has soft rounded edges.
My mom loves bitter melon, I can't stand it.

@snowjewelz: and @regberadaisy: How do you cook these? We love regular okra. Is it similar?

@regberadaisy: I tolerate it better as I got older! I used to hate it. I feel like all "old" people love it... Maybe I'll get there one day
@Chuckles: Hmm my mom usually cooks it the same as zucchinis probably.

I used to always eat those, too. But never knew what they were called in any language Now I know!

@Chuckles: I think okra is much starchier and gummy. This is more like a squash or zuchinni but even it absorbs a lot more liquid. I usually sauté it like I would any other Chinese vegetables. Peel all the hard skin off, cut however you like (I usually do thick slices or triangular). EVOO in pan, garlic, then veg, a little soy and liquid, then sweetener (I've been using honey lately). Steam for a few minutes - it cooks fast!

I remember eating that growing up, but I think I'm confusing the flavors with bitter melon, which is icky.
