My MIL hates the name we love and she can't stop telling us. She says stuff like I know I had my chance to name my children, I know it isn't any of my business, I know you don't want my opinion BUT I still hate the name.
Ok, vent over! I wish DH never shared the name with her.

The mom of a good friend of mine didn't like their name choice either. She loves it now though so hopefully through hearing it more and meeting her little grandbaby will change how she feels!

That's why we are considering not telling anyone our name choices (well, when we have them). That's too bad she can't keep her mouth shut about it.
FWIW my mom didn't like my brother's name choice for if it was a boy-- she would say to us (his sisters) I hope it's a girl since I like that name better. Now that he is born the name totally suits him and my mom has never said anything else. But I thought she shouldn't have said anything in the first place.

That sucks I made the mistake of telling my (young) sister a couple names I was throwing around, and she laughed at them. Laughed! I was so mad I cried. And then I decided that no one would no the name until it was final. Of course, that won't stop insensitive comments like your MIL's! How annoying!

I hear this happening more and more lately. most people seem to think that they cant convince you to switch the name if they dont like it. I like keeping names secret for this reason

Oooh that is awful! I am afraid of that happening to us, even after the baby is officially named. Might not hear it direct but I'm sure we'll hear it. I'm sorry that happened! Will it change your minds?

Ugh, that sucks! I'm sorry you felt the need to point it out to you - she should just keep it to herself!
My mom isn't a fan of the name we picked either. We have a nice normal name, but are going by a unique nickname, which she doesn't seem to like. She doesn't like how we spelled it and doesn't know why we don't just name the kid the nickname since that's what we're planning on calling him. Oh well - you can't please everyone!

Friends of ours named their daughter Nevaeh (yes, heaven backwards). Sooo many people make fun of that name in general - even the dad drunkenly made fun of it while wife was pregnant! Thing is, the name totally fits their little girl!

She needs to put a sock in it. My aunt hated the name my cousin and his wife selected for their daughter, so off the bat she shortened it. And my mom going along with her sister would mispronounce her name and followup with "or whatever the child's name." Finally I told her she sounded stupid and corrected/ helped her with the name.
These old folks need to get over it, baby names are not their decisions.

Ugh, that is so annoying! And totally inappropriate. I feel like it's the grandparents way of trying to have a little control over something that is 100% out of their control, but a very big deal in their lives. That's why they're so outspoken about it, because they desperately want something to be up to them.
This is exaclty why I have sworn DH to secrecy and we are not telling anyone what names we are considering until it's on the birth certificate. I feel like our parents would hate anything we came up with just because it wasn't their idea.

This is exactly why we aren't sharing her name till she is born and named. I think people are less likely to give their opinion when the baby has been named already. I know my family, and I don't want to hear their opinions. We love it and that is all that matters.

also, i agree to just ignore her. she seems very bored a lot and likes to antagonize you in an "innocent" manner I think. or what she thinks is innocent but in actuality, annoying.

Ugh. Yeah we're not telling ours either. I was just offhandedly discussing names with a relative the other day and one came up that she was so against (that i really liked), that she said "well if you name her that I'll just call her something else."

Here's hoping that she likes it once she has a face to go with it? I agree, DH shouldn't have told her unless you both agreed to share it.
I had a similar experience with a boss of mine who didn't like a girl's name we had picked out last time, even though the name had significance for our family. It's like, why is it any of your business?
If I were you, I'd just tell her that yes, her time has come and gone and that she should stop being so negative over a name that you and DH obviously love. It's none of her business anymore and she should just keep her pie hole buttoned.

It just sucks because I see MIL a lot more these days and she brings up the name every single time. This name is not suitable for an Asian was her last comment. She also told LO to "tell" me that the name is awful and Granny doesn't like it. Completely ridiculous but I think DH is used to her being like this! Lol, I just need to work on doing a better job of tuning her out.
