I had bad nausea for 20 weeks with my son. We are thinking about TTC soon for #2 and I'm curious whether anyone had bad nausea for their first but not their second? Am I being too hopeful?

I had pretty bad nausea with my first- never threw up but felt really crappy from week 6-14. I'm almost 11 weeks with my second and I definitely still had some nausea, it has not be nearly as bad as my first and it seems like it's already getting better. So basically I had about 4 weeks of feeling really crummy for a few hours a day, vs 8 weeks of feeling super hungover all day long.

The exhaustion, on the other hand, hit both times. But I think that's pretty much unavoidable.

Sadly, I had nausea til about 32 weeks with DD1. So far at 28 weeks with DD2 I still have it. maybe if I had a boy it would be different?

@kjpugs: I wonder if this one is a boy and that's why it isn't as bad! My boob changes are also totally different.

Two boys, only had mild nausea w ds1 from wks 6-8, bad nausea was on meds for half and still nauseous from time to time at 32 weeks. Bad nausea was from weeks 6-24.

I didn't have nausea, but saw the title and thought I'd missed something haha

With #1 I had terrible nausea all day everyday until 16-17 weeks (throwing up all day, somedays couldn't hold down water). With #2 I felt nauseous, but mostly from 3-5 pm, and only from 8-13 weeks.

I thought I was going to skip it but it started around 13 weeks for my second and it stuck around for the rest of my pregnanxy. The second tri was the worst for me.

@MrsKoala: I thought this was going to be a pregnancy announcement!!!

With my first I had terrible nausea until 20 weeks. With my second it's been bad, but seems to be letting up earlier (I'm 13 weeks now and while I still struggle at times, it's much better than it was a few weeks ago)
@Foodnerd81: my nausea was more mild this time and my boobs are totally different (more painful and way bigger) and sure enough this one is a boy where the last one was a girl.

My nausea has been as bad if not worse this time around--girl both times. Second time it lasted much longer (I still get nauseous every day at 29 weeks).

Both pregnancies have been exactly the same so far. Pretty sucky nausea.

My first pregnancy flew by with no naseua at all... Then my second pregnancy kicked my butt with naseua for about 17 weeks. It's a toss up.

My nausea was much worse with #2. I think mainly because I was a lot more tired running after a toddler!!

Mine was worse with my second. Anecdotally, my first was a boy and this one is a girl so that could be why too.

So you're saying there's a chance? (Couldn't resist Dumb & Dumber reference). At least there's some hope it might not be so bad the next time. Thanks all!!
grapefruit / 4903 posts
Mine were the opposite order but very different. I never had nausea with DD1 and had it horribly with DD2 (hospitalization, fluids, zofran, etc). Maybe yours will be equally disparate!

I've had a girl and currently pregnant with a boy, horrendous nausea and vomiting both times

I had it the other way around! Perfect pregnancy with my son (now 2) no nausea or anything
I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant & have been having a terrible time. I lost 13 pounds in the first trimester due to vomiting & was on a drip in hospital a few times for dehydration. Thankfully when I hit 15 weeks it stopped. And we have been told it's another boy! So I guess every pregnancy is so different you may get sick or you may not! Totally worth it in the end tho

I was so nauseous all day every day in my first trimester with #1. This time, just a couple weeks and it wasn't even that bad. That said I had other gastro stuff going on that I'm thinking may have inadvertently stopped the nausea and overall this pregnancy has been way harder.

With my first son, I had nausea in the first tri and threw up twice during that time.
This time around (second boy), no sickness at all.
I know a lot of people who had opposite pregnancies so you never know!

With DD1 I had about a week of nausea but with DD2 it lasted until about 17 weeks. I felt like garbage but had to still go out and do things with/for my older one. You get through it...

With DD I had bad nausea from 5w5days until week 14. With #2, the nausea started a tad earlier and was just as bad from week 5 to 8 and actually got less bad after that. I still get it (week 10) but it's definitely less than #1. It still sucks though! My SIL had it bad with her DS#1 and said it wasn't nearly as bad with DS#2.

To answer your question, I had bad nausea with bith girls in the first tri. Both times it subsided at the end of the first tri. Good luck and can't wait for your announcement!!

I had consistent low level nausea starting at week 20 with my first, and it lasted until I delivered and then continued when I would breastfeed, for months and months. This pregnancy I had a little bit of nausea in my first trimester and then nothing - so a different experience is totally possible.
I think that true, serious HG tends to only get worse, though. I don't really know what the deal with mine was but I don't really count it as HG, since it was fairly mild.
pomegranate / 3791 posts
I think it depends on the level of nausea. I had HG - constant nausea with lots of throwing up, and unfortunately that almost always repeats itself in subsequent pregnancies. Including mine

@MrsKoala: @lavender: @LAZB: me, too! I got irrationally excited there for a minute!
