We are finding some really neat touches to the house we are moving into. Check out this unusual storage in the eating area. We can't figure out what it was built specifically for. Do you have any neat features in your house?

I wish there were net features! Does that door have a secret passageway?

No neat features in our rental. Is just a bland ranch house from the 80's.

Nothing neat or unusual, just in love with our house everyday! We lived in a small 800 sq ft apartment before this house (3000 sq ft), I just love it everytime I think about it!

Well, growing up in the North I miss alot of cool features older, historical homes have. My newer construction Florida home has a POCKET DOOR and I am stoked!

@anonysquire it is just super deep! I guess storage for like a stockpot!? Kind of weird.

We have lots of interesting details in our house, like all of the original doors have the pretty crystal (?) doorknobs. We have door that looks like yours in our bedroom, I was so exited thinking it was a secret passage or something but it is just access to the pipes for the hall bathroom!

@matador84: are you sure it didn't used to be access To pipes or something that they made into a cabinet? It's interesting.
papaya / 10560 posts
@mrsjacks we can't figure it out! It is a great deep, long cabinet in an unusual location. Maybe for large pots like stockpots? I'll have to take an interior pic tomorrow.

Not too many, it's brand new, so no cool old features unfortunately!

Our house is from 1949 and has the original crystal doorknobs, a big open archway from the dining room to the living room, coved ceilings with picture rails, little recessed display cabinets above the kitchen sink, and the cutest little door from the living room to the back yard.
Also a hideous half-remodeled (not by us!) bathroom with the original pink and red tile around the bathtub, with a swan motif on the trim pieces. We really should do something about that...

Our front door is really cool if that counts. It's just very neat looking, wooden and has lots of character.

I want to see if someone can tell me what light switches are up above the built ins for!
nectarine / 2936 posts
@Matador84 Are they switches or outlets? If it's an outlet perhaps it's for Christmas lights? I don't know!
Our house is a late 50s ranch. Yesterday I posted a pic of our (not so) awesome pink master bathroom. This is in our kitchen and it's quite large (approx 10" x 14"). It is a built in radio and intercom. There are also smaller intercoms in each room. It doesn't work, but I don't see how to get rid of it. I don't think it's that cool, but everyone who comes over is obsessed with it!

We have a little door in our closet, so we can drop our dirty clothes right into the hamper in the laundry room. Love it!

@mrs. 64: I think that's totally cool! I love stuff like that
Our house in Upstate NY had a cute little nook in the wall for a telephone and a cute little built in cabinet underneath it (like phonebook size!).

I don't know if this is that neat/interesting but we have a storage room underneath the stairs :
but when we have kids I totally want to turn it into something fun like this:

@Reese: omg I LOVE that!!
we looked at a condo that had a closet under the stairs that had we bought it we would've made into a half-bath.

@rachiecakes: Thanks! We have plenty of storage in our basement and we already have a bathroom down there so it is really just unnecessary space at this point. I would have loved to have something like that as a kid. It is an easy thing to change when they grow out of it as well

@reese so beautiful, i love it! @rachiecakes we have a lot of crazy original wiring from the old timey phones. the wiring hasn't ever been updated and the electrical sockets aren't grounded either!
@icebergmom @mrs.64 they are in the same place on the opposite wall too. we thought christmas lights too but it just seems like so weird to put outlets up there...but we can't think of anything else either.

@Reese: do you have a young wizard living in the cupboard under the stairs?
i love that idea in the second photo!!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Reese: @Mrs. Cowgirl: HAH! I was just going to say "or you could keep an unwanted magical nephew in there!!!!!

@Reese: Omg, i love your house just based on the stairs and arched doorsway!

@Smurfette: my aunt and uncle have a laundry chute like that, and when we were planning to build we wanted one; turns out they are illegal where we live!! Boo, they are so cool!
