DD's 4th birthday is in May. Lately she has been admiring my Elsa Peretti heart necklace that I wear almost daily and saying she wants a heart necklace. Is it silly to get a 4 year old a necklace? Obviously it wouldn't be Tiffany or anything nice, but do any of your preschool aged LOs wear non-play/plastic/dressup necklaces?

I don't think so, especially since she's asking for it! I think it'd be really special! Lo (3) loves wearing jewelry. She has some nice things that I keep in my jewelry box and she can wear if she asks and she has other things that she keeps in her jewelry box in her room so she can wear them whenever.

DD has a nicer white gold necklace from grandma (got around 2.5) but I keep it in my own jewelry box and give it to her to wear when she asks. She actually forgets most of the time.
I'm considering getting her a gold plated initial necklace like mine off etsy since she likes it so much.

DD started showing interest in jewelry when she was 2. She has a tiffany sterling silver "love" necklace that she wears almost every day.

It's not silly if she'll wear it a lot. DD1 has several nice necklaces (gifts), but she doesn't wear them. However, they won't go out of style so she'll probably wear them when she's older.

DD was gifted a half heart necklace from her best friend (who has the other half) when she turned three. They love wearing them and joining them together, they look adorable. If she asks to wear it, I let her.

I have 4 year old students who wear non-play necklaces. I'd just say to look for something with a sturdy chain. Kids play hard and it's always a very sad time if the necklace breaks!
