For carseat issue install the Uber app on your phone and use Uber Family, the most amazing thing ever hahaha.

As for keeping baby warm, will you have a stroller with you? I bundled my kiddo in her stroller blanket. For babywearing she had one of those full body puffy coats from Gap which kept her incredibly warm. I might b able to dig mine out and lend it to you if you cant find one. It looks like this

@plantains: @LHBlitzer: Just FYI, the Uber carseat is for babies 12 months and older (it's a pretty big carseat that's forward-facing, not an infant bucket seat).

For a 10-week old, I'd just bring a travel system stroller with a carseat that snaps on - that's how we got around the city with LO in the beginning, and whenever we needed to take a cab, we just buckled the infant seat into the cab and stuck the stroller in the trunk. What carseat and stroller are you planning to buy? Most strollers have adapters so you can attach an infant seat to the top of the stroller.

@LHBlitzer: I would probably bring the infant seat from home and install it in the taxi---it really doesn't take long- my husband can do it in about 30 seconds. Every time we've flown so far, we've flown with the infant seat and gate checked it (in a bag). We've installed it in taxis here to and from the airport, in New Orleans to and from our hotel, and Dallas to and from our friend's house.

As far as what to do once you are IN nyc----I wasn't spending whole days out and about when LO was that age. Is it a possibility that with a 10 week old, you will be hanging mostly at your in-laws apartment or in their immediate neighborhood?

I'd bring infant car seat, stroller, and babywearing option and use all of them depending on the situation. I'm cautious and wouldn't take a 10 week old in a taxi without a carseat and to be honest...would avoid public transport as much as possible (and sanitize a lot and not touch anything) just because babies get sick so easily in winter.

I would think it would be a huge pain to carry the carseat around everywhere although i think using it from the airport would be helpful. I personally would take advantage of public transport rather than avoiding it. In addition to the train theres also the bus which would be a little easier to pop on and off of especially if you're wearing the baby.
