Lansinoh breast pads are the best disposables ever. I had an over supply, and those were the only ones that prevented any spill over.

Don't order nipple shields...you won't for sure need one, and if you do, a LC will provide you with what you need, or you can run out and get them if you need them.

One tube is enough of nipple cream, because you use it very sparingly.

One tube of cream is PLENTY - I still have 1/2 a tube left over and I used it just about every day (especially when pumping)

I hardly leaked or used my breast pads, so I'm not much help there (although it was nice to have them tucked in when I didn't want my gigantic nipples showing through nursing tank tops.

I used the lansinoh storage bags but I also had some medela that my friend gifted me. Honestly they work just the same to me.

The milkies looked like a great idea, but they also looked like it would be a PITA to keep clean.

Don't buy the nipple shields - the hospital will give you one (and they last forever).

OH - are you having your baby at Memorial? They gave me a giant straw cup during labor and it was fantastic when I was breastfeeding (I got SO thirsty the second she would latch... and then I was stuck sitting there for 30 min thinking about how thirsty I was - haha)

Ooh, I just read all the great suggestions the other ladies gave you. Definitely a boppy or other pillow! And they are so right about being thirsty!!! I had to have my camel back bottles filled and next to me at all times. You need one you can drink hands free! Stocking up on snacks you can eat one handed is a great suggestion to. I was so hungry in the early days, and didn't have any time to fix food. Granola bars, muffins, etc. were my saviors!

As far as nipple cream, I much preferred Motherlove or EMAB as lanolin made me itch. Milkies and nipple shields were never a need for myself so maybe wait until you determine if you need them or not. Milk bags, yes if you are going to me a WOHM. I preferred washable pads so I have Pink Daisy. Other than that, two hands free pumping bras (one for work, one for home).

I used the Target brand milk storage bags and loved them.

I used coconut oil for nipple cream and loved it!

I used washable pads and really liked them. They were thick and comfy, but didn't show awkward circles in my shirts, and they were perfect for hiding the huge nips like @BabyBoecksMom: said!! Haha

Never used nipple shields or milkies, so I'm no help there.

All of the previous posts have great suggestions. For the pad and Milkies... you will just have to wait and see how 'leaky' your breasts are. Some women don't leak much after 12ish weeks or even at all, so Milkies wouldn't be needed in that case. I also don't know of a lot of people who have used Milkies, I thought about it, but never got them, so I would skip them. Personally, I was going through so many disposable pads that I got cloth ones, can't remember which brand.

--nipple cream...Medela was the best in my opinion...called tender care I think.
--breast pads I used these for months because I leaked when I let-down...I used Lansinoh.

I loved motherlove nipple cream. I went through 2 tubs but I would glop it on for the first 8 weeks. I used disposable lansinoh pads and they were fine. Nipple shield, I wouldn't buy until you need one, and they might have them at the hospital. Milkies I didn't buy/didn't need.

A lot of this stuff is available at drugstores/pharmacies, so I wouldn't worry too much about stocking up before baby comes, in case you find that you have preferences for one thing over another.

I would also see if you have the right size parts for your breast pump. I needed to get bigger flanges -- the ones that came with my pump were too small. Ouch!

I just use the Target brand breast milk storage bag. They're something like 50 for $6 and they work great.

I'm not a fan of lanolin and neither is my LC - too thick,and really serves only as a moisture barrier not a healing agent. I greatly prefer either Motherlove nipple cream or just straight coconut oil (the lauric acid in it promotes healing).

I use the Lansinoh disposable breast pads. They work just fine.

I wouldn't get the nipple shields or the Milkies.

Everyone had great suggestions. I liked the Earth Mama nipple cream. I bought a tube of Lansinoh and returned it because I never used it. That's another thing you can do, buy supplies at Target or wherever and return them if you don't end up using it. I also returned the soothie gel pads. The Lansinoh disposable pads are great. I would just get one box to see how you like it. I hated the disposable pads. Too itchy. I loved having nursing tanks for the early weeks. I would hold off on milkies and a nipple shield.

All great suggestions above--to add to it:
-I loved Medela nipple cream best.
-Lansinoh breast therapy gel packs came in handy when I was engorged.
-I like the organic, washable nursing pads Mrskc recommended.
-if you need nursing bras, I highly recommend Bravado silk seamless bras. They come with pads built in, so there is an extra layer to hide a pad, aaaand it's the only nursing bra I have that covers up nipple show through.

Great timing for this thread! I was just putting together a list of things I need to get. I am definitely removing some things based on what has been said.

@T.H.O.U.: I think I used that same recipe, only I used chocolate chips instead of raisins. Yum!

@lamariniere: Mine cracked really bad which led to yeast infections in the nipples/breasts - so much pain. I never had any bleeding though... I just kept them really oiled up after every feeding. I wasn't worried about DD ingesting so much of it, as I would with other topical creams. I had to take a medication for the yeast infection, but the cracks healed within a couple days. I had to make sure to keep up with the coconut oil, otherwise they'd start to crack again

Another vote for washable pads and EMAB cream.

Needed: Soothies gel pads - so worth it the first couple of days; Lansinoh lanolin; Polysporin and hydrocortisone ointment - my LC had me use a combo of these while bleeding/blistered until everything healed (it was ROUGH for us at first); Gia nursing pillow, though I only used it for the first 2 months or so; straws - for sucking down tons and tons of water without spilling on my squirmy newborn; Medela washable pads - I have Lansinoh disposables to use in a pinch, but I prefer the breathability of the washables. I still leak at let down 7 months in

Nice to have: manual pump to toss in my purse for a girl's night out; A&A blankets/cute scarves for cover; PISA (nice to have but not necessary because I'm a SAHM)

I bought a lot of supplies and left them in a bag with the receipt, just in case (e.g. milkies, nipple shields, an extra tube of lanolin, etc), and was able to return them when I didn't use them
