Yup, I would say normal. Twins are almost 12 weeks old and DS freaks out more when his pacifier drops out of his mouth than DD does. They both do it but it seems like DD can self soothe some of the time. I'm waiting for the day they can hold their own pacifier. I can put their hand on the pacifier to 'hold' it but not sure how long it will stay.

Sounds pretty normal to me. My lo won't wake up immediately if it falls out but personally I only call it inconsolable if nothing we're doing works to calm lo down.. We are still sleeping in shifts here too. (October birth.) It kind of sucks but I like having a somewhat guaranteed period of sleep. Every 15m is a lot though, not gonna lie! Sometimes ds will seem like he's dropping it but if he keeps doing it over and over it probably means he's hungry instead of wanting the paci.

See if you can grab the bean bag thing shaped like a frog from the hospital, that held it in for D and all the babies in the nicu!

We didn't introduce a pacifier for the first few weeks but I think that would definitely fall into the "normal" category - which, for newborns, is a VERY broad category. Good luck!

We use tommee tippee pacifiers, and they stay in better. LO pretty much just chomps on so soothees now. I wish wubbanubs could switch out for different pacifiers.

@wrkbrk: I'm so glad its all resolved. No more getting up every 15 minutes! The first few weeks are so, so hard but it doesn't last forever and you come out the other side relatively unscathed, I promise.

@wrkbrk: Awww don't feel bad. The first few weeks are rough while you learn what they need.
Since you're BF I recommend Kellymom.com. She covers all of the cluster feeding and growth spurts.
I also recommend downloading the wonder weeks app! It explains why your infant goes through certain fussy periods and it's actually because of huge developmental "leaps". It makes the cranky crying more bearable when you know why and that they will end up even cooler at the end of the spell
I'll share a story - my first night home (he was 5 days old) he woke up crying every hour and I couldn't figure out why. I even called my Pediatricians hotline and they were like "well, it's a baby. They cry" in a nice way.
Milk wasn't fully in yet and I wasn't opposed to formula so we were doing bottles of formula. At 3am my husband ran to a convenience store to get 2 other kinds of formula because we didn't know what else it could be.
Well, turns out I wasn't putting the bottle nipple in his mouth correctly. So everything was dribbling out onto his bib. I starved him for about 24 hours before my mom came over and showed me how far back the nipple has to go in his mouth since they don't know how to swallow (just like with BF you need a deep latch).
I felt awful. BUT we figured it out and he is now a chunker So the first few weeks are scary but it will get easier and easier every single day as you learn. And it also gets more and more fun too

@wrkbrk: are you able to get in touch with an IBCLC to get some help with nursing? It's just so totally normal for newbies to want to be on the boob all the time!
