from everything i've read on here, people have recommended not to do outfits for the newborns... but, i ignored them all. it's my first little girl, and i'm determined to dress her up like a doll baby every day. most people seem to recommend sleep and plays for newborns though.

We do sleep n plays at home and outfits when we go out. LO is almost a month old.

I try to do outfits when we go out, but occasionally an "outfit" is a pair of overalls or pants over a sleeper.

C wore a mix of both. We LIVED in fleece/terry sleepers but she did wear outfits. Our first day home from the hospital was Easter and we dressed her all up in a cute dress.

We used both...honestly in the early days when they're pooping like 12 times a day, gowns or just onesies with baby legs are the easiest, then you don't even have to take their legs out of sleepers or pants.

@JessiBee: hmm...sometimes zulilly has them. Or even just keeping LO in a onesie and wrapped in a light swaddle blanket as well. We do that now when we're too lazy to put his pants back on.

We used both, I actually found that the onesies with the pants were easier because LO kept kicking/moving while I would change her, and to get her legs in those sleepers was a pain! We got a lot of those one piece gowns that were really nice, especially in the middle of the night for those late night changes. She sometimes would be in a long sleeve onesie and I would just wrap/swaddle her in a blanket, with no pants. I would suggest getting a few different things so you find what works best for you!

@JessiBee: Definitely cuter as they get older for "outfits", but a few can't hurt.
I'm thinking separates before the umbilical cord falls off, and then sleepers or onesies + BabyLegs like some of the other moms mentioned for when we are at home (and she is being swaddled). I think get a few fleece sleepers just to test them out first. Baby might get warm and sweaty if you swaddled with the fleece and have the heater on. But you might end up loving them. I'd try out a few pieces of each before buying one type in mass.

I'm all about streamlining life - zippered cotton onesies are my favorite. LO occasionally wears fleece ones if we're going for a walk outdoors, but I think they're too hot with a swaddle. We frequently swaddle in a light flannel blanket and a diaper - especially after he's peed on 3 outfits by 9:00 AM.

I wouldn't buy too many "newborn" size things; LO was 8lb 6oz and 21 inches, and she only wore the newborn size for about 3 weeks. She was wearing some 0-3 things from birth as well.

As far as fleece goes, I like them for when she is lounging at home during the day. It would definitely be too hot at night though, even though we only do the light A&A swaddles.
