I just can't believe this is happening in our world. I am heartbroken for the people of Nice.

the news is just depressing. I read world news on CNN daily and there is some type of mass killing regularly, some of which dont hit mainstream media because of the locations but the combination of all of them is just very overwhelming.

Im so f'ng sick over this. Yesterday was a national holiday in France and it ended in bloodshed. All I can do is cry for the innocents. Cry for my children.

I am so scared for my kids and the world they are growing up in.

So, so awful. I can't imagine what it was like to have been there during that time.

There have been an incredible number of terrorist attacks in the past few weeks, across a whole range of countries. Add to that all the mass shootings, and it's just crazy!!

This makes me so sad for the world our children have to grow up in.
Selfishly, I'm angry for the limitations/worries all the recent acts of violence place on me as an individual. I realized recently when DH mentioned seeing the new James Bond movie that I'm actually a little reluctant to be in a theatre on the opening weekend of a movie. I found myself looking at exit options when I took DD to see Disney on Ice. While we are considering babymoon options, I started to think I'd prefer to stay out of major European/American cities during busy times. Occasionally I even find myself anxious when I'm taking a train that passes through Grand Central or under a major landmark. While logically I know we can't let terrorism stop our daily lives....I don't know. I hate that this is what the world has come to.
I used to tell myself that bad things have always happened, we are just more aware now because of how media has changed. I'm not so sure that is my stance anymore....

@PinkElephant: I know what you mean! We are headed to a theme park today and I immediately thought, ohhh maybe not a great idea! I hate thinking that way!
My mom used to always tell me to look for exits in buildongbuildings so that has always been a habit if mine, but her reason was fires, not terror!

So awful. I'm not familiar with Bastille day but the google search I did said that it used to be called National Celebration (English translation). So this would be similar to July 4th to us? I can only relate it to what I'm used to but I can only think how awful it would be to be attacked during the fireworks show. So so sad.

I'm so thankful that my son is so young and does not yet know what's going on in the world and that I don't have to try and explain this to him yet. Because I don't know how I would or could.

It's just horrific. I was reading a news story and saw a photo of the body of a little girl with her doll laying next to her. I just can't even imagine how scared those people were.

@bluestriped bee: yes. It's basically the French 4th of July, so it's a huge national holiday.
Eta: so in the French reports, a lot of people thought the noise was initially fireworks or something related to the celebration, so they didn't immediately leave. From what I read, Nice was on high terror alert. There was a heavy police presence and people were being checked before being allowed to enter the Promenade area. But the semi truck was able to easily plow through the barricades.

Between the constant mass killings on US soil, Dallas and now this, I am terrified of the world we live in. The depravity of people appears to know no bounds - what has our society come to, what?
And yet, instead of pushing us together, our politicians and media (all politicians and media, nothing partisan here) continue to ramp up rhetoric to pull us further apart. We act worse than fucking animals towards each other and I am so so sick of it. I am so mad and so sad today.

@Madison43: Everyone (civilians) not just politicians and media are pulling us apart. It's evident when people understand and don't understand the 'Black lives matter' movement. I know this isn't a BLM issue but there appears to be one side that people understand and the other.
As for politics, how Trump would go about this terrorist attack is a bit different from how Hillary would. Some agree with one and disagree with the other. Or disagree with both. With this upcoming election, clearly people are already choosing sides and there is fear on the other being elected.
I know this is mainly focusing on US issues and touching a bit on international issues.
