I’m so sorry. My best friends little sister has downs and shes a teenager now. As a baby all milestones where about double - didn’t sit until a year didn’t crawl until 18mo etc. she is doing well now but her parents are very proactive about therapy and resources etc. i know her parents are worried about but she will do if they die. They also had a (4th) baby because they wanted an easy baby after her

I saw this board and immediately clicked on it because as you probably read the board that @bhbee posted, this was my situation just a few short months ago.

First, let me just say how sorry I am that you have to go through this because I know EXACTLY how shitty it is and the feelings/thoughts you are probably having. DH and I, at 27 years old, never thought we would receive a call giving us this information and I also NEVER in a million years thought I would be strong enough to give up my baby, especially being my first after 1.5 years of ttc.

We kept hoping and praying that the blood test we had was wrong or it was just a fluke thing and our little boy would be fine but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for us. I ended up having an amnio at 15+ weeks because they told us it was mosaic trisomy (extra chromosome was only found in some of the cells, not all) and there was a possibility it was just linked to the placenta. Having a CVS didn’t make sense for us because they test the placenta so we went ahead with an amnio. Not going to lie, having to be stuck in my belly 3 times with a needle because they couldn’t get it to work the first two times was traumatic and not so much fun but I got through.

Ultimately, DH and I had to make a decision and at 18.5 weeks pregnant, we decided to terminate. It was the hardest thing we’ve ever had to do. We even fought about it and didn’t speak for a bit. As much as I miss being pregnant, hate the thought that I won’t have a baby soon and am obviously very sad, I know we made the best decision for ourselves and for our son.

I truly hope it ends up being a fluke for you and you are able to move past this but if not, please always feel free to reach out to me about anything. You are not alone in this!!

@yellowbeach: I'm so sorry. This is a tough one. Just wanted to chime in and say as a fellow SN mom I get your hesitation 100%. I got my tubes tied after DS2 since I couldn't imagine going through it all again. Sending love to you guys
