So I'm pregnant with my rainbow baby and thrilled but at today's appt, they couldn't find a heartbeat. He said it was due to the position of my uterus and I have an ultrasound scheduled for Monday. Can anyone share some positive stories of the same experience?

If it was with the Doppler, they couldn't hear the heartbeat with it when I was 12 weeks and had to do a quick ultrasound to locate it. My daughter is now 3 weeks old.
Either way, hugs to you and my thoughts are with you and that sweet rainbow baby.

They couldn't hear my baby's heart beat with the Doppler at 12 weeks. An ultrasound showed all was fine and he is 3 months old now
The 20 minutes between Doppler and Ultrasound were terrifying for me, I can't imagine having to wait any longer. Many prayers for a healthy baby!

I think this is common. At my 10 week appointment last week they told me they might not be able to hear it but could try if I wanted to. The medical assistant said she can hear it sooner on smaller women but positioning being a factor makes sense too. I can see why they sometimes don't check this early if it could really go either way.

My midwives wouldn't use a Doppler before 12 weeks because they said the odds were too high that they wouldn't be able to find a heartbeat and it would cause unnecessary stress.

Yes, it's common to not find the heartbeat on the Doppler at this stage. I totally understand being scared, wishing you strength until your next appt!

My doctor refused to try with a Doppler before 16 weeks and I'm tiny and had a perfectly positioned baby. I wouldn't worry, I'm sure they'll be a heartbeat

@bubblegum: I can understand how you feel, we're so vulnerable at this stage. I wish they could have gotten you in for an ultrasound sooner even though it doesn't sound like they were concerned. It's a lot harder to not worrry when your whole life revolves around this baby!

With LO2, the OB couldn't find the heartbeat at 11 weeks with a doppler. I had just come from an appt with MFM where they did an ultrasound, so I knew everything was okay, but they did another one anyway. He's almost 14 months now. Hope everything is okay! Hugs!

@MOMTOLITTLEB: This is a great point - if they thought there was a problem they wouldn't make you wait over the weekend, they'd want to know what was happening so you could be prepared.

@MOMTOLITTLEB: yeah they didn't seem concerned at all and considering he knows my history I'm hopeful that all is well and that's why he didn't rush the ultrasound. Yes!! I'm trying to not worry but it's tough. Everyone's stories are helping a little though so I'm grateful.

I was 14 weeks and they had to get the ultrasound instead of the doppler. I am 24 weeks now.

My OB couldn't find the heartbeat at my 12 week ultrasound either. She asked if I was feeling ok and my heart sank, she immediately called in for an US and baby was perfectly fine. It must be common!

I wish they had done an ultrasound for you on the spot! But yes not hearing a heartbeat via Doppler is pretty common at this point. By 14 or so weeks you should be able to hear it.

I'm sorry they are making you wait so long for an ultrasound. Could you call tomorrow morning and try to get in earlier? In my OBs office, they only do ultrasounds and don't use the Doppler until your 16 week appointment for this reason. Wishing you the best!

We didn't hear a heartbeat with our little one at our 12 week apt. The midwives felt like it was super normal but I was STRESSED. I finally called me asked for a recheck week later. (Even though they assured me at my next apt we'd hear it) they brought me in and after some serious "searching" they found it. If they hadn't found it then they promised they'd send me for an ultrasound even though it wasn't standard practice. Our sweet boy is now 3. But I'll never forget how nervous I felt when they tried and couldn't find his heartbeat. Sending calming thoughtsto you! Maybe ask yourOB for an ultrasound? I'm sure they'd understand the request.

Our dr won't even try for the heartbeat with a Doppler before 12 weeks at the earliest. She's said all 3 times, " we will try and hear the heartbeat, but at this stage we might not be able to hear it quite yet. It's no need to worry, and if we can't, we will try again in 2 weeks." So I think it's pretty normal to not hear it with a Doppler at this stage.

@bubblegum: at 14 weeks my doctor couldn't find the heartbeat. He totally shrugged it off and said "sometimes I can and sometimes I can't at this stage". I panicked and called my friend who is a doctor and she snuck me into her office and after a few minutes found the heartbeat. I know you are worried but 11 weeks is early to find a heartbeat on the Doppler. When is your next appointment or scan? I hope you don't have long to wait. Thinking of you!

@sapphire: they did it with an ultrasound before then. I normally had 3 ultrasounds by 16 weeks.

Practice and even then they said don't freak out if we don't hear it. my sis had a tilted uterus and they couldn't hear it the first time either (probably around 12 weeks.) totally normal and not something to worry about (easier said than done!) I hope you have a nice ultrasound Monday to put your mind at ease. -
My OB doesn't even bother with a Doppler at 12 weeks, he gives everyone an ultrasound instead. I'm had a home Doppler and could find the heartbeat, but I had to point the mic REALLY low.

At my 12 week appt the doctor said he would try but it's often not possible to hear it then. He did end up finding it after a longgggg time of trying. Is totally normal. My friends doctor couldn't find her babies HB on the Doppler until 14 weeks.

Definitely have babies on the ground and another on the inside that doc tried to find hb at 11-12 weeks and couldn't. Heck....I'm 26w now and two appointments ago my doc took a few mins to find this one's. Hugs! Not cool, you don't need that worry, esp with a rainbow baby, I hope everything is fine and that bean is growing away inside of you!

It took my midwife awhile to find it at 10 and 14 weeks. Even at 26 weeks, she was hiding and it took the student awhile to find it.
