When I had my daughter in 2012, I don't remember any warnings against hot baths or showers. Now my bump app is warning me against them?

@Mrs. D: I wouldn’t worry over hot showers... but hot baths are advised against. Fetuses don’t have the ability to sweat and can overheat, especially if your belly is submerged in hot water.

The hot shower thing is apparently so you don't pass out, or that's what one of my nurses told me. I took hot showers anyway because that's how I like them, I just kept them shorter than usual.

I only ever heard to avoid hot baths. I actually weirdly "craved" scalding hot showers when I was pregnant, especially towards the end - I think it helped with my soreness. But I usually only turned the temperature up for the last 1-2 minutes of my shower.

thanks, everyone. It just seemed a like a new and weird suggestion. I LOVE hot showers, it helps with my sore muscles after being on my feet all day as a teacher. Plus, my sciatica!

I usually take super hot, turn you lobster red showers but now I have to be careful because I definitely overheat and have come close to passing out a few times.

@Mrs. D: I was told that a hot bath is bad because your stomach is submerged. But with a shower you aren’t submerged so there isn’t a chance for the baby to overheat.
I also love hot showers. I just pay attention to how I feel.

I love burning hot showers. I agree with some pp above, I don’t think it’s the heat for the baby necessarily that is warned against, rather the fact that you’re standing and probably have low blood pressure being pregnant and then can get warm and potentially pass out/fall.
I tone down my shower temp when pregnant. and it makes me appreciate it much more once the baby is out!

I love a long hot shower. I’m just careful not to get too hot so I don’t pass out like others mentioned.

I absolutely love super hot showers too, so when I'm pregnant, I just tried to avoid it hitting my bump directly, or my lower back for too long.
