I hate goody bags. Little random pieces of junk bug me so much. It just turns into something I have to throw away. Bring on the cake!

About how much do you/would you usually spend on one of these goodie bags? Is there something you could do that's more useful? My friend just had a 3rd birthday party for her daughter and instead of treat bags everybody got a $5 gift card to a frozen yogurt chain.

I'd do it, I'm the kind of person who would hate being the one that didn't. I'd skip the junks an do "healthier" snacks (goldfish/fruit leathers/ect.) and then do a small box of crayons and a sheet of stickers instead of the junky toys.

I voted backwards. I don't think you need favors at all.

I like receiving goodie bags that can be consumed/dealt with/thrown out in a day. Like a simple mini-can of playdough that says something awesome would be helpful to keep LO entertained and useful.

As far as making....I just do one 'healthy' snack with something artsy attached.

No favors. However, cupcakes with critter rings on top for decoration do double duty.

I have to say, that just this week my kid got one of those mini coloring books with crayons at a preschool birthday party, and he was SO excited! As a parent I never expect anything though, so either way I guess.

I think it's fine to skip. I agree that goodie bags are mainly "junk", but I always keep the "junk" to use later. They come in handy for certain situations, like plane rides. If you lose something, no big deal, and then toss when you arrive. I've also used them to stuff plastic Easter eggs and my kids love it!

Ugh, I hate them. I joke that if you send your kid to a school that doesn't allow you to bring in edible treats, you never have to buy playdoh. DS is turning 3 next month so I'm feeling the pressure. I was thinking about donating a book to the classroom instead. And how awful is it that I was almost going to talk myself out of it b/c how would the kids' parents know that I did that and then they'll think I cheaped out. Which made me realize that we do all of this crap to impress the parents and the kids really wouldn't care either way. Sure my kid loves when he gets a present/goodie bag. But that lasts about 3 seconds and he's on to the next thing.

I wouldn't have cared if my kid brought home goodie bags or not!

I saw this really cute favor on Pinterest of animal cookies and homemade icing in little containers. Or maybe Rice Krispie pop on a stick?

When LO brings the goody bag junk home, she plays with it for a day and then I secretly throw it away. most of the time, she doesn't even notice.

How old is your kid? This year, I decided that instead of bringing in a treat for my son's birthday, I am going to visit the class and we're going to make yarn tassel bookmarks.
