I was just reading a post about whether to be/not be team green and so many people said they found out the sex of their baby because they are planners.
What do you plan? Names, nursery decorations, clothing, pink/blue baby gear? Is there anything else?
I consider myself a planner, but I guess I lean towards gender-neural things and we already have names for a boy or girl picked out.
I want to be team green, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Nursery and names are the big thing. We really want to pick out THE name before birth and not go in with a list. Also knowing the sex just made me feel more connected to the baby. I know all babies look sort of alike but I feel like knowing she is a girl lets me picture HER somehow.

For me, I "plan" because I hate gender neutral stuff, for the most part. I think it's really boring. Plus, it took us from 16 weeks until she was born at 41 to decide on a name. lol. I also felt far more connected to the pregnancy once I knew. It was unplanned and I had a hard time bonding and it helped snap me out of denial and acknowledge that there was a person in there.
Really, I just wanted to know. Zero desire to wait to find out.

I have thought about how long I could delay finding out because my husband doesn't want to be TG. I imagine revealing the baby's sex at a baby shower, which is usually 6 mos +.

I found out for all my pregnancies, but for this particular one, it was important for me to know, so that I could get somewhat through S and change my mindset from "girl" to "boy". If I waited until birth, I would have had to go through S's things and pack it away while LO was around, and I didn't want to do that to my LO. I wanted to be able to put all my focus on planning for a boy, if that was what I was (and I am!) expecting. Not a gender disappointment thing...it's different than that.
For the other two, I was just impatient. I like to know who I have inside.

Oops, for just (mis) reading thr thread title only. I have a gender neitral nursery planned- think MUR wall decals, blue, and baby animals. Knowing the baby's sex would allow us to firm up a namr and probably lessen arguments about a JR if our LO was a girl. I don't mind loading up our CC with layette and gear in gender specific colors just to return them post baby.

@Dandelion: That makes sense. A coworker of mine was surprised for their first two (a boy then a girl) but found out for their third (and last) so they give away/donate the stuff they wouldn't need anymore.

For me, I just hate surprises. I always just want to know the ending. It's one of my weird things. I'm also a planner too so that part helped. Plus, it was nice to not have to "fight" with DH about 2 names.
For one of my friends, she wanted to know b/c she desperately wanted a girl. If it was a boy, she needed the time to come to terms with it so it wouldn't cloud the actual delivery.

I also think it will help DH connect to the baby better.

Well, if it makes any difference, my husband and I were at a complete standstill regarding names, both boy and girl. It was only after my son was born that he let me choose.
I also did a massive online shopping session while we were in the hospital, once we knew we had a boy. There are always new things to buy, so I never felt like I was missing out on anything.

I wanted to find out for several reasons:
1. I'm not a surprise kind of person.
2. It helped me connect to the baby. I could call him by name and imagine him growing up, etc. I talked to him and just imagined our family with him in it.
3. I picked the nursery out for HIM, not just a baby. Because I knew he was a boy, I picked out things with his name, etc. sure that could wait until after he was born, but I'm a planner!
4. I don't like gender neutral clothing.
5. 9 months is a long time to wait! I'm not that patient.

I have no desire to be TG, but for me it's more for planning in the abstract sense. Not for buying stuff and getting all things pink or blue, more because when I'm thinking about the birth and beyond that to our future lives, I'd just like to know whether to imagine a girl or a boy. I'm very impatient and just want to know asap. For me, I don't see the point of waiting until the birth when you can know sooner. I know a lot of people just want that exciting, "It's a boy/girl!" moment in the delivery room, but it's just not for me

I think we are going to find out for the 2nd, though we didn't with the first. I don't think there is that much to plan. Though I guess I'll know if I should pack up boy clothes if its a girl!

We had a gender neutral nursery and pretty gender neutral NB clothing, but I found out from a "planner" perspective because I wanted to process the sex of my baby while she was still in the womb. I figured that I would have enough to process with a newborn, I didn't also need to process that! Plus it"s still a surprise when you find it out at the ultrasound - I don't really understand why finding it out at birth is more surprising.

I don't have an easy time bonding during pregnancy, so being able to start to see who this person will be helps me out a lot! I knew with #1, and I still felt pretty distant from him compared to what I hear a lot of pregnant moms discuss. I'm definitely bonding more with #2 and can start to see who he will be. Naming is hard enough as it is, we wanted to have a good idea ahead of time, I can't imagine trying to make that decision after the exhaustion of birth!
Ultimately with clothes and supplies, gender doesn't make a huge difference since I wouldn't dress a girl very girly to begin with (having had a boy first), but I prefer knowing ahead of time. I still had a great experience finding out what they both were at the ultrasounds (plus my husband and I can read ultrasounds, and no way either of us could look away from the screen during it).

My husband and I each had our own gender preferences so we wanted to know early so we could bond with our baby and not be "disappointed" with the sex later.
I also don't like too many totally gender neutral clothes, but that's because I don't dress my baby in a lot of onesies or SleepNPlays, so getting anything neutral past that point is hard.
Having said that, our nursery is pretty neutral because we live in a 2 bedroom so it will be the same for #2 when they come.
I'm glad we found out. =)

I wanted a nursery geared toward a boy or a girl.
Same with clothes - not a fan of gender neutral clothes!
@mskeee: I agree! ultrasound or at birth - either way its still a surprise!

I'm not a huge fan of gender neutral clothes and I tend to lean more towards 'girly' things. Also, I think it helped DH bond a little more.
