My NT scans for LO 1 (born 2011) and LO 2 (2013) did not confirm gender.

I did a Verifi blood test for genetic screening and it told me the gender for LO 3 at 10.5 weeks.

@Mrs D: it was through my Dr. I was 35 so I was given the option.

I did the NT scan with DS and was low risk. They correctly identified the sex then. They were 99% confident.

I plan on doing the scan again with this LO, and hoping to find out the sex then as well.

My scan included a finger prick and u/s where they measure the back of the neck. They also measure other things as well. We got a CD full of ultrasound pics along with print outs from the scan.

The NT scan may or may not be covered by insurance though.

I was low risk with both pregnancies and had gender blood work done along with my other blood work and ultrasound for the 12 week scan. My insurance covered the ultrasound and bw, but I paid for the gender bw, I think $150.

@Mrs D: I've had two NT scans in the past year, neither included the blood gender scan. I had the extra gender blood work (harmony) done for my third pregnancy because there was a flag on my scan and got the results a few weeks later.

@Mrs D: The NT scan is a u/s that measures the back of the neck and blood work that will tell you the risks of a few genetic disorders (primarily Downs). The test your friends are referring to is a genetic screening that is different per practice. Some people's doctors do them for everyone and insurance will cover it. In Ohio, at my practice, I was told I was not a candidate because I am not 35 and over, have not had a late term loss or my NT scan came back ok.

You'll have to check with your doctor and insurance to see if you are eligible. The traditional NT scan can tell you gender by u/s but not most of the time.

@Mrs D: I really wanted it, I wanted to know the gender as soon as possible. Plus I like to know as much about the baby as I can. I was denied and we weren't willing to pay to $2,000 out of pocket.

A good amount of people on here were able to get it for $250 or less. Just depends I guess!

@ladybee: $2,000?! Ouch!!

@Mrs D: It would be so fun to find out early. I think we'll find out next time. I would still wait until the anatomy scan before buying all of the things ... I had a friend who based everything on the NT scan, and ended up having a boy (when they were told they were having a girl).

@Mrs D: I've always heard to opposite, lol. That they actually look for labia vs. a penis. Either way ... I hope baby makes it really obvious for the tech!
