Charlie has been home for a few days. We took him to his doctor after he spiked a 102 fever, and the doctor diagnosed him with a "throat infection" after looking in his ears and throat. She said that something similar is going around our local daycares. I mentioned I had noticed a weird smell, but I also guessed that it might be a recurring ear infection and she said the ears looked fine and we didn't come back to the smell again.

But then today I noticed that Charlie's tongue was covered in a white film and he said that it hurt too. So I started Googling to see what could cause throat problems *and* a white-covered tongue, and then Bee actually mentioned it might be thrush. Charlie just finished a full course of antibiotics for his two ear infections, so he's definitely at risk for thrush! I also read that thrush can smell like yeast, which sounds vaguely like what that weird smell was (although, who knows).

Anyway Charlie's tongue actually not only has white film, but also is showing some sores as well... here's an iPhone pic that Bee just took:

Ugh I hope it's not thrush or strep! We'll go to the doctor first thing tomorrow morning to have them take a look at his latest symptoms... gosh I hope he's ok! And I hope he's not going to be staying at home for weeks on end! I googled whether or not kids stay home from daycare when they have thrush, and people said it can depend on the daycare...
