Im not sure. I thought that perhaps I liked it.... but then I asked DH and he instantly rhymed it with stinker. Im sorry, my husbands a tool!

@Cherrybee: hahaha, maybe I should run some names for LO 2 past your husband.

It also makes me think of Minka Kelly. You will constantly be asked "Oh, like Minka Kelly?" every time you tell someone her name. I'm sure that would get really old quickly. I also am not positive how Luisa and Minka sound together. They don't seem to flow well for me when I try to say them together. I do think it's a really cool name though! I just think some of the other issues with it would make me want to pick something different.

@swedishfish: Feel free... although you go run the risk of rendering your baby nameless if you do!!

Thanks for the input! If minx and stinker are the worst ways to make fun of her name, I can live with that. I had DH convinced on Pippa at one point, then I pointed out that it rhymes w/strippa and he permanently vetoed it. Doh! Still debating on names but I'm glad for all the opinions!

I love it! I also associate it with Minka Kelly but I don't think that's a bad thing!

I really like it and I actually think Minka and Luisa go rather well together. Associations with names will always be there. My son is Cooper and every one loves to say Cooper pooper. Whatever. That's just their own immaturity shining right through!

I love it! It's not our style for a girl's name, but I think is very pretty. I'd picture her to be beautiful and sassy.

At first I was like no. But by the time I read comments and got to the reply button it is starting to grow on me!

@JerricaBenton: I looked up minchia, yikes- that's the kind of thing I wanted to know ahead of time! Now I'm a little torn...it would be a total dealbreaker if it were spanish profanity but we don't hear much italian around here. But what if she wanted to study abroad? I guess she could think of an alias. I will run it by DH

By the time she is old enough to even know who minka Kelly is, she will likely be a washed up name from the past. She hasn't done much beyond Friday night lights so I wouldn't worry about that. Personally I like the name and think you should follow your gut if you guys like it!

@tororojo: Yeah it's a pretty nasty one! But...if you don't speak Italian and no one really does in your area, it's not really that big of a deal I wouldn't think. She could always go as 'Mina' if she studied in Italy
ETA: the Italian word is pronounced 'minkia' in case anyone is thinking of -ch sound in English.

I like the name! But I love unique names, which this definitely is. What's the origin? I would go for it, love Minka and Luisa together too.
Also, I think it's silly to even consider not using a name bc a B-list celebrity has the same one If someone names their kid Angelina, would everyone be like, oh as in Jolie? No. Most people don't even know who Minka Kelly is. DD's name is the same as an obnoxious character from the tv show Girls, which is pretty popular, and no one has ever made the connection but we get comments all the time on how pretty the name is.

@Corduroy: that's what it made me think of too! I don't know the famous girl, but I know kid books!
It's cute, unusual but not hard to pronounce or spell

@MsLipGloss: Yeah sorry OP, but this was my immediate thought too.
To me Luisa seems very classic, and Minka, while it sounds matchy with it (and matchy names really are't my taste anyways,) does not.
