We got rid of the pacifier at 17 months. We had been talking about how it was time and one Friday night I just decided that was it. We had previously agreed that we would start on a Friday evening and work on it all weekend before sending her back to daycare on Monday.

I wasn't brave enough to throw them away. They were all gathered up and put in a hiding spot until I was ready to throw them away (just two weeks ago!).

She cried the first night but we never looked back. She has stuffed animals and blankets in her bed that she can snuggle with.

Honestly, it was much easier than I was prepared for.

My LO doesn't use a paci (anymore) but he is super attached to his lovey. Like Mrs. Jacks, we make a big production about saying 'bye bye lovey' in the morning and after naps. It used to go back into his crib but now we put it in his daycare backpack. They've adopted the same routine at daycare after naps too.

My DS has been getting the binky only at naps and night sleep for several months now. We went cold turkey several nights ago and it was much better than I thought it would be. He is 22 months. He cries for the same amount of time without the binky as be did with it (less than 10 seconds). I consider that a win. I was glad not to have to cut it up or anything and prolong the process. We were in a similar situation where he would fight for it on some days so I opted to just get it over with before it became even more traumatic!
