Oh gosh, that's pretty swollen. Have you reduced the sodium in your diet? I'm guessing you are retaining water which can be so painful! I had this in my feet/legs with my first pregnancy. I would make sure they know you are in pain and ask for additional tips.

A brace to wear overnight helped my pregnancy carpal tunnel. Just a simple one from CVS to keep you from bending your wrist while you sleep.

I got this really bad once I hit the third trimester. I would try to sleep with my arm extended and would ice my hand and joints. The brace never worked for me, but does for some so I would give that a go.

I had this last pregnancy with DS starting at 16 weeks and my ob also said carpal tunnel. I wore wrist braces every night to bed. It's back again this pregnancy, again at 16 weeks. I have it in both hands. Two nights ago I started noticing some swelling in my legs too, which I didn't get with DS. This preg is kicking my butt!!

Try wearing a wrist brace.

@travellingbee: the swelling is really miserable. Unfortunately it took a while for it to go away pp. I'm convinced no one loves being pregnant. They just forget the misery afterwards

Fwiw, I think it went away for me after DS was born but unfortunately it came back when I weaned off BFing. Then went away when I first became preg with LO2 only to return now at 16wks preg.

@travellingbee: I felt the same way pregnancy was swollen painful miserable.
For me though the swelling was the only sign of preeclampsia. Check you BP at a pharmacy just to be careful?
I never felt dizzy, nauseous, nothing but all of a sudden everything swelled out of control.

Mine didn't get that visibly swollen, but in the final few weeks I would always wake up with throbbing hands and the skin felt too tight. Went away immediately after birth.
