Does anyone use this diaper? I wanted to buy a pack of these in the N size for the 1st couple of weeks when the baby arrives, once the belly button falls off we will switch over to cloth diapers. Did you like using this diaper, if not which diaper would you recommend for a newborn?

I'm interested in this too - I registered for Pampers diapers (everyone I heard from said they preferred Pampers over Huggies) and have size 1 and 2 ones at home, but will probably need Newborn for at least a few days!

We used swaddlers until he grew out of the largest size! We were so sad to switch to regular diapers because they seemed so hard and rough compared to swaddlers. They are definitely great and they even have a pee indicator strip-- it turns color when baby has peed so you don't have to check inside the diaper!

oh and RJ fit just fine into the newborn size for at least a few weeks. He was 8 lbs 1 oz when he was born.

I LOVE Pampers...We used these for a few weeks (maybe a whole month?) before moving onto stage 1. LO was born 7lbs, 6oz.

@mrs. wagon: do you think one 36 pack is enough for the first week? or should I buy a bigger pack.. I'm just trying to avoid having left overs that I never use so i wanted to buy a small pack.

I would also buy 2-3 packs. We went through diapers in the first month like it was going out of business.

@mrs. wagon: Good to know! At our 32 week u/s yesterday, the OB told us our little girl isn't going to be so little. She's in the 95th percentile and already weighs between 5 and 6 lbs! That's what happens when giants mate (I'm 5'11" and DH is 6'6")

@Rubies: How long did it take for your LO's belly button to come off? Because I've heard it takes about 2 weeks and we plan to switch to cloth diapers once the belly button is healed

@Mrsbells: I would buy a smaller pack and send someone out to buy more as you need them. You might get boxes of diapers as gifts from first visitors (we got so many!) and like you I did NOT want leftovers. You have to run out to the store anyway for random stuff so picking up diapers isn't a big deal. I think we went through 2 or 3 packs of the newborn size before we moved up to size 1.

his head measured at 99th percentile even in the womb, and still to this day. And of course when delivering vaginally, all that really matters is the head size -
I also loved the Pampers Swaddlers- we used them for a couple weeks then switched to cloth (prefolds and covers). The fit was great, the pee strip was great, and hardly any leaks.
In contrast, my mom had bought a back of Huggies all-natural diapers (or whatever their "greener" diaper is) and those leaked all the time. -
We're using the Swaddlers Sensitive Newborn, too. Babies R Us had that sale a couple of weeks ago ($25 off 2 cases of Pampers), so we grabbed 2 cases of 88 and figured that's plenty to get us through the newborn stage. I've heard lots of good things about them.

We used the Newborn Swaddlers for the first 2-3 weeks. DS was born weighing 9lbs 5oz.
I would buy a bigger pack. As a newborn, DS was going through ~12 diapers a day. His umbilical stump fell off when he was 13 days old.

@Mrsbells: Hmmmm...Good question. I can't believe I've forgotten. I'm going to say 3 weeks only because I had heard it could take "as long as two weeks" but we surpassed that and I was worried!

we used newborn swaddlers but charlie grew out of them really quickly. we had a bunch left over and i bought only one pack -- maybe it was a medium sized pack?
charlie was 8 lb 6 oz when he was born. he went through size 1, 2, and 2 1/2 really fast too. then he was 3 for his entire first year+.
if it were me i'd only buy one pack. but then olive ended up needing preemie diapers of course!

@Mrsbells: It took longer than I thought it would for the belly button to fall off. It broke off in pieces, so most of it was off after like 10 days, but it took a while for the rest to go.
I just used whatever people gifted me. I waited for her to grow out of NB diapers and then we switched to cloth, which only took a couple of weeks anyway.

We used the swaddler sensitive because we didn't want to expose our babies to the gel max, or whatever that super absorbent stuff was that can sometimes cause rash in some babies. Lala wore the newborn size until she was able to fit into cloth, but Maisie outgrew them by 4 weeks of age, though she can't fit into the cloth quite yet.

We received both Swaddler sensitive and Huggies all-natural as shower gifts plus took a pack of Swaddlers from the hospital (all size N). We used them until we ran out, about 4 weeks. LO was 8.07# at birth and her umbilical stump fell off at exactly 2-weeks. Didn't have any problems with leaks during the early weeks but maybe because we changed her so often.

We were given like 4 packs of pampers swaddlers and one pack of huggies from the hospital so maybe consider not stocking up until you know you'll need them.

They had pampers swaddlers at the hospital. You can/should take whatever they have in the bassinet, since they will throw it out after you left for hygiene reasons. I have a bias against Pampers because of the recall on the dry max diapers 2ish years ago when babies were getting 2nd and 3rd degree chemical burns. We used what they had in the hospital, then used BRU brand, Luvs or Huggies. I really liked Huggies Little movers from ages 6 months on, since they have extra stretchy legs/back and contain leaks better.
DS never fit into newborns diapers though; he was 10lbs 9oz at birth. We went straight into size 1 (for the first 4-5 weeks). We cloth diaper, but use disposables now and then and DS was in size 2 for about another 5 weeks then hit size 3 by 3 months. He fit in those until 10 months, then was in size 4!

@mrstilly: Wow your baby weighed 10lbs 9oz at birth? Did you give birth by C-section or by pushing? And did you know ahead of time that he would be a big baby?

We used the Pampers Sensitive, because the regular Newborn size (with Sesame Street) were too big for him for the first 6 weeks. We tried Huggies too, they also worked fine, but I still prefer the Sensitive in any size for now.

I am glad to see good reviews on these diapers, because at my showers I RAKED IN the Pampers Swaddlers. I have at least 3 packs of size N... how soon till babies move up to size 1?

She was 9 pounds at birth so we jumped pretty much right to the size 1's.

those we the brand the hospital used and we loved them. some of my friends like the NB sensitive version. you may want to check those out too!

We also used the sensitive kind and loved it. We actually used Pampers Sensitive all the way to size 3. Will definitely do the same with baby #2.
