Is there a culture you identify with as a parent?

I suppose I have a lot in common with Asian cultures because I expect first time obedience, I believe in free range parenting, and I place the importance of academics far above athletics (I even plan on mandarory violin and piano lessons). I don't cosleep, though, and we will homeschool, which doesn't seem very popular among Asians.

Something that really struck me in the article is the observation that in America, we don't ask our own mothers for parenting advice. We are more likely to turn to friends, books or even the Internet instead. Why do you think that is? Is that true for you?
