I talk to C constantly. I hold conversations with her, correct her behaviors, etc. I know she can't understand, but I feel like the more you talk to them the better their language development and comprehension is going to be.

She's ADORABLE, btw. I love babies with chubby cheeks!

Now that she can kinda talk about its fun. This morning I told her about how we are going to Disney and we are going to see Fireworks. She immediately pointed to the fireplace and said "fire". I said, yes, fire, but in the sky. She asked "hot". I said, yes, fire is hot, but these fireworks go "Boom" "Boom". She thought I was blowing on the hot fire. So cute to see her try to make connections about a new word. I know she's listening!

I guess I always figured it's to help them learn and develop language and cognitive skills for later? I do talk to K, but I have to make a more conscious effort to talk to her more often. She definitely responds to voices and being talked to!

Agreed!! I actually make a conscious effort to talk MORE to my LO because it's good for language development too.

@Beebug: Omg..babies in fleece onesies are the cutest ever!!!! So adorable.

there's a whole section in the book "nurture shock" about why talking to your LO is good. They also mention that it's not only about talking TO them, but also about responding to their babble within an appropriate window.

i totally talk to O. i read an e-card recently that said having a baby is now the perfect excuse to keep talking to yourself in the store cause no one thinks you're nuts ..or something.

Haha, I was the same way. I blabber on to her all the time. I figure she's slowly learning what the words mean. Hopefully she'll learn to be talkative too - something I had to learn the hard way as an adult!

I talk to D constantly. I figure it'll help his language and cognitive development. I narrate our entire day to him.

I talk to LO all day long. I even talk to her at the grocery store when I'm there alone.

I talk to my LO in the store all the time too! Or just in general. I've also read that it helps with their developing language skills! So everyone can look at me as if I'm crazy all they want!

I talk all the time, like a PP mentioned, because NurtureShock stressed it so much. But it was really hard to figure out what the heck to talk to a newborn about, so for a long time (6 months or so), at home, I mostly sang songs I knew the words to. Not that anyone would want to hear me sing (not even my baby, I'm sure)-- but heck, it was one way to keep me saying things to him. Now that X is less of a blob, I can ask questions and narrate what he's doing, all that.

I constantly talk to him. Best was when we were at target, I had him in the boba carrier and was talking to him about our options for sheets and comforters, and when I left the aisle there was a male employee totally looking at me like I was nuts.

I was talking to my LO while looking at new shoes for her.. I was asking her if she was going to ruin them, or grow out of them too fast ... and some lady walked by and chuckled.. Love that I have someone to talk to, makes me not feel so weird about talking to myself
