@MUI831: I'm with you. Loathe them.

I don't really love them, but I do love that they make it much easier to get my kids out of parties without massive meltdowns! So for that reason alone, I will always do them! Ha.

@Mrs. Jacks: I'm jealous! I was trying to do bugs as a theme before DD came up with her own idea - I was going to give out little big nets to let them hunt for plastic bugs hidden in the yard (DD and her friends live hunting hidden objects), and would have done Ladybug Girl board books.

@PinkElephant: great ideas! We are going to the natural history museum. The kids get to hold beetles and tarantulas and there are a bunch of bug themed activities.

I hadn't thought of ladybug girl, but maybe I'll get a bunch of copies as favors!

Not a fan of goodie bags! If there must be a favor, a book or an open-ended activity that can be done at home would be nice. This year, we sent kids home with the pumpkins they painted at my son's late October birthday.

i don't mind them because they keep the kids entertained, but i put them out on the street immediately for someone else to take.

we always give books! berenstain bears are cheap, and you can find other similar paperback books that are about $3 each.

Kids love them so it doesn't really matter what I think.

But I don't mind. I usually save them for a later occasion, like for airplane ride entertainment. For those little plastic toys that everyone hates, I saved them to put into my kids' Easter eggs this year. They loved it! I usually toss candy unless the kids have gotten to a piece first!

@PinkElephant: does she know curious George? Party city has $1 George coloring books you could tie some string around. Then it's useful and cheap and not plastic!

Oh and the last 2 parties we went to we got goodie bags with candy and toys. I'm not a fan of candy for 2-3 year olds. Some of the toys were fun for a minute until they broke.
