We are meeting with a potential pediatrician on Wednesday. Did anyone else do this prior to LO's arrival? Any suggestions on good questions to ask? I'm not really sure what to expect!

We asked about vaccines (we wanted a ped who didn't accept unvaccinated children), we made sure they had a separate sick waiting area, we asked about their knowledge of/commitment to breastfeeding ad we asked about procedures for visiting LO in the hospital after delivery.

Mrs. Pen did a great blog post on interviewing a pedi & things to think about/ask!

Goodluck & I hope this pedi is a good fit for your family!!

We also asked about vaccines just to see how compatible they would be with our preferences, asked what the schedule of appointments would be in the hospital and in the first year and had them sign off on our birth plan.
Mostly, I just wanted to meet him and get a feel for him and his personality. Like @mamamoose we were happy to see they had separate well and sick waiting rooms and the nurse practitioner in their office is a lactation consultant.

For us it was mostly about getting a feel for her personality and what the office and staff was like. I thought it would be awkward because we didn't have many questions, but she asked us some questions and things just kind of came up from there. It was very casual.

I just wanted a vibe from our pedi and seeing where everything is. Like @mrsf I thought it would be awkward but she said she does them all the time and it was easy! I also asked if she was supportive of breastfeeding, not circumcising, and cloth diapering. good luck!

I wanted to know about the procedures to see children outside of scheduled visits, especially when there were illnesses or reactions to medications.

We did with one and he's the one we chose, we love our pedi!!
I took some questions from here, but generally, we lucked out that he actually took the lead and was so thorough about covering topics. We were his last appt of the day and we were there for a good 1.5-2 hours going over his procedures, clinic hours, his vaccine schedules, his practice and partners, etc.
Hope it goes well friend!!!

To add to the ones already listed if there's a LC on staff. Check the cleaniless of the office, same day sick appointments, early/after work/weekend hours are important.
Our "trick" question was their stance on vaccinations. We wanted a doctor that would work with us on this one, not a all or nothing type. We felt this was telling to the way they practice; ie we did not want a doc that would prescribe antibiotics at the drop of a hat.
There was actually a office that basically said if you don't want to vaccinate on our schedule you might as well look elsewhere. That left a bad taste in our mouths and look elsewhere we did!
