@autumnlove: I cried a little. I tried to suck it up so no one would see, but DH and the tech both did. There were 2 techs and it made me feel terrible that they kept staring at me and saying "Are you going to be okay?" like they were thinking, "Jeez lady. You're a really great Mom, crying bc it's a girl!" I know I'll get excited, and I feel like mega shit for caring one way or the other, I was just so convinced! I got really attached to the boy stuff! We had a name and a nursery theme, and a 0-3mos wardrobe for a boy. We are totally not prepared for a girl. Don't even have any name possibilities. But I guess we've got 25 weeks to get this figured out!

@jholler25: yep! I tried to hide my face from DH and the tech. The tech was giving me the weirdest look...like what is wrong with this girl?!
Is DH excited about having a little girl? HUGS!

Huh. Well I wasn't expecting that one...

But hey, you'll have a daughter! Girl stuff is super duper cute! Tutu's and bows and headbands and little ballet slippers and ruffled-butt bathing suits...not to mention the super fun stuff like Mommy/daughter mani/pedis!

Sigh. I really hope this baby is a girl...

DUDE!!! I too am seriously floored and i will say this only because its so early: these things tend to more often be wrong in the favor of boys, this means that there are more boys who sneak in by surprise than girls. get that 20 week scan and make sure. swollen girl parts can pass for a mistaken boy but underdeveloped boy parts can also make mistakes and say its a girl when it's not.

All that said i think you will have the prettiest baby girl on the block if she is a girl. she will be beautiful and funny and candid. also not for nothing but they make so much more stuff for girls. girls can wear boy clothes and girl clothes. if this is indeed a girl you will have the time of your lives with her.

oh and don't feel bad for being a bit disappointed. you just had a strong gut feeling and an idea for yourself. the nub theory is only 80% and i think we all forget about that 20% or get worked up by it. perfectly natural to need some adjustment time and with 25 weeks you gots a lot of time to adjust and give this baby a kick ass nursery and name.

Oh my goodness!!! A girl! Congrats! The nub soooo said boy, lol. Don't worry and don't feel guilty. Most of my pregnancy before finding out I thought I was having a boy too. You have enough time to get excited for a girl, pick a name, shop, etc! And as it all happens you'll get more and more excited. You're going to be a great mom! Don't worry!

And that's why you don't buy gender specific clothes after super early scans and guesses
Little girls are just as wonderful as little boys.
Important thing, is a healthy baby in the end.
    Congrats!
    P.S. I guessed right!

@jholler25: aww what a little cutie. usually those head on shots are kind of creepy looking but this one is really cute.

@Crisark eh, i don't think the early shopping was so bad. baby girls can wear boy clothes and we all can get excited or worked up. i waited to shop but it killed me to wait.

    pomegranate / 3398 posts

@MrsMccarthy: I'm not saying anything is bad. Only if you can handle being told something different down the road that's all.
To each their own. The main thing is a healthy baby! And that sure looks like a perfect little baby!

@Crisark: yes she is perfect! agreed. i just don't want holler to feel badfor shopping early cause we all can get worked up and excited. she waited a long time for this baby too so it's harder to wait i bet.

Congrats on your little girl! I totally get being shaken up by finding out it's a girl when you totally thought boy. I was the same way! We just had a 28w 3D u/s, and I actually had them reconfirm the gender just to make sure.

If you're doubtful, have another look a little later.

@JHoller25: I also thought I was having a boy . . . and I had all boy names picked out, and a very neutral (but definitely leaning toward boy) bedding set already in the mail . . . I was floored when I found out it was a girl! I was seriously stunned, and it took me a second to really hear what the sonographer was saying. BUT, after buying a few sweet footed sleepers and imagining DH with a baby girl in his arms (and him taking her to ballet class and having a tea party with her), I was completely in love with the idea of having a girl. And we figured out a name in no time flat. ((Hugs)) doll - she's gonna be a heartbreaker!

I totally would have cried if we had had a boy. I know two women who cried after finding out they were having boys because they wanted girls... You are so not alone. Girl stuff is so stinkin cute, you'll warm up to it in no time. Girls are so much fun to shop for. I'm addicted to hairbows lol

    Congrats!

    @dc yoga bee: same here!!!

I guess I assumed boy cause of the nub pic, but I felt like it was a girl!

@jholler25: so you're how far along? only 15 weeks? Are you getting another U/S at 20 weeks? It seems so early to know!

I totally understand the disappointment/adjustment. It was the same with us. We were convinced it was a girl, I had crazy MS, high heartrate, and all my dreams were about a baby girl! When the tech said boy, I was stunned and I almost cried too - but my mom and sister were there so I tried to act happy. It was hard! But now I have a boy and I'm sooo thrilled and love him to death. He is just the sweetest thing. You totally adjust and of course love them more than you could possibly imagine once they're here sending you big hugs love!

@Coco Bee: Thank you so much! You are so sweet:) I am already adjusting! I am getting excited! I was in complete and utter shock for a few hours but I started looking at girl stuff online and it's getting me all excited:)

I realize after re-reading my original post what an ungrateful jackhole I sounded like...I really was in a complete daze over shock! That nub had me CERTAIN! I am so happy we have above all, a very healthy baby, and I'm totally grateful for her and am already daydreaming about having a little princess:)

@jholler25: oh no you didn't at all! I TOTALLY understand!! It can be hard to plan for one thing, and get another.
I planned for a specific birth at my birth center, then had to be induced and transferred to a hospital all in one day. Everyone told me, "oh it's ok, at least your baby is healthy!" But sometimes you need time to grieve/adjust when your plans change drastically and it's okay to be upset. We all know you're not ungrateful silly

So glad you are adjusting so quickly - girl stuff is so fun.

@jholler25: congrats on you're girl! I was in the same position as you. DH and I were convinced we were having a boy. We had a name picked out even! It took me a couple days to grasp that we were having a little girl. We hadn't even discussed girl names since we were so sure LO was a boy!

just for starters. when i see those baby girl swimsuits i just wanna die! they are so so sweet. this baby girl was meant for you and you for her. i truly believe we get what is meant for us. infact my husbands friend was told boy by several 3-D ultrasounds and they had the most beautiful baby girl day of. she is the love of their lives.

OMG, congrats!!! I've been traveling and haven't been on for a few days and then I found this post. Wow! I was guessing girl, but I know you had your heart set on a boy, as did my DH. Trust me, once you start seeing/thinking in little girl stuff you will be SO excited! I agree that she is going to be one little looker!! Yay! Check out gymboree. I found the cutest strawberry bathing suit and little summer outfits. Their clothes are to die for. And if you haven't joined Zulily, check that out too. It's dangerous, but they have some amazing stuff!!

And if it makes you feel better, every time I have an ultrasound I have them check to confirm it's a girl. I go again today and will ask again today. haha. I keep joking if we end up having a boy he best like purple and pink because that's what he's getting. lol.

Congrats to you and DH! I know you are close to you dad and know how special that father/daughter bond is. I am excited my DH gets to have that, and I know your DH will love it too!

Just throwing this out there, we had an elective gender scan done at 16 weeks and the tech was certain it was a girl (we even have pics of the 3 dots/lines), so for a month and a half we planned for a girl only to find out at our anatomy scan that we are definitely having a boy! Mistakes are made all the time and I was slightly disapointed when we found out it was a boy (even though I wanted a boy to begin with), I just got so attached to the idea of a girl. We are obviously thrilled either way! I am now 25 weeks and baby is healthy so that is all that matters in the end!

@MrsMccarthy: so I was a little nervous about the blurry potty shots, especially bc I'm getting so excited about a girl and wouldn't want it to not be accurate later...I called the place and they offered to try to get me a clearer pic for no charge, so I did it today...It looks for sure- it's definitely a girl and they showed me 3 lines and everything while she was up on the screen.

    It's definitely a girl!
