I'm just looking for experiences. I'm 30+3 weeks and got a positive fetal fibronectin test at 30+1. What gestation did you get the positive compared to when your delivered? I'm scared and really hoping to not have a preemie

Hi! From what I remember from my numerous fibronectin tests (I had a lot of preterm labor with our April 2017 baby) was that a no was a solid no, but a yes could still mean there was no sign of preterm labor. So as confusing as that sounds, it can be positive and mean nothing or it can be positive and mean labor is "soon" but "soon" can also mean 6 weeks away. Do you have any other signs of pre-term labor? I know they can re-check you every 2 weeks I believe.

We had a positive at 34+5 but it’s because DW water broke with PPROM. She delivered at 35 weeks so 2 days later and was induced. I would agree with @psw27 who posted above. If no other signs are present, it could be false/not imminent labour.

I had preterm labor scares and short cervix with both my pregnancies. And I had several FFN tests done during both (all negative). I think @psw27 is right - if it's negative, it's highly predictive that you will NOT go into labor in the next two weeks. If it's positive, it is much less highly predictive. And your chances of going into labor are also driven by other variables such as how effaced and dilated you are, contractions, etc. Are you getting transvaginal ultrasounds to check your cervix for shortening? I would think with a positive FFN, you might be asked to go on bedrest and you would get weekly cervical ultrasounds and NSTs.
My FFNs were negative but I got weekly cervix ultrasounds to measure the length of my cervix and NST to monitor contractions. I also got steroid injections to speed up fetal lung development. IMO with a positive FFN you should be getting all these things through a mfm/perinatologist doctor.

@psw27: I was having steady contractions on Tuesday when they did the test.
@MrsADS: they told me no physical activity and to keep my next appointment with my OB which is Monday. They did an ultrasound to measure my cervix length and to make sure baby is practice breathing.

@littleblessings: what was the result of the ultrasound (if you don't mind sharing!) any cervical shortening or dilation? I'm so sorry you're going through this. I know the stress of pre-term labor. I will say - I had steady contractions with DS2 from 28 weeks onward and he was born at 39w5d. Also, I had my first at 34 weeks and he is doing ok. Try to relax as much as you can. xo.

Just chiming in to say my midwife explained exactly the same as others have said above- a no means no, a positive means we need to be more careful/ keep a much closer eye on everything. Mine was negative but I’m hoping your positive just means extra monitoring and modified bedrest and baby keeps cooking. 🤞🤞
