I think it depends on the person and also the season. If it's winter you can layer more and possibly cover up a baby bump better than the summer.

Here's how I looked at 20 weeks but I was trying to accentuate my bump as much as possible. I met a few people who were surprised I was pregnant (although I thought I looked huge) and I think I could have covered it up if I had dressed differently. I also agree it depends on the person and body shape (I have a longer torso and short legs).
Edit: I had only gained about 5 lb at this point.

For me, DEFINITELY not. I'm tall and was thin before pregnancy, but started to show really early (6-8 weeks) and it was OBVIOUS if I wore normal-ish clothes by 12 weeks. Now I have a very pronounced belly, at 23 weeks. No one mistakes me for anything but pregnant. I don't think there's a baggy enough sweater to hide this bump.

I wasn't showing much at 20 weeks for my first pregnancy!

I'm 5'7, 145lbs normally.
While I gained nothing in my first trimester, I had gained 18lbs by my 19 week appointment.
Here are 2 20 week photos. There is no way I could conceal this crazy belly! People who knew me knew at 12 weeks.

I could have at 20 weeks. I probably could have hid it until 23-24 weeks.

Here I am at 19 w 4 d.
Edited to add - I had gained 25 lbs at this point. I am 5'10".

@anonysquire: it is fun! Looking back now I really don't think I look all that pregnant in that pic. I am 5'5"

So interesting seeing how differently everyone carries!
At 20 wks I could have hid it by wearing looser clothing, but it was getting difficult.

I'm not sure I could have hidden it at 20 weeks. It would have been tough for sure. But I'm 5'3 with a short torso, so there was pretty much no where else for it to go but out.

I really couldn't hide my bump at 20w. By about 13 weeks plus, it was pretty obvious I was pregnant. In fact, one of our lawyers asked my boss if I was. I'm 5'10" or so with a long torso. Someone else mentioned weight, I only gained 25-30 lbs with pregnancy, so my bump was there, but less outright obvious with the slower weight gain.

I think I could have hidden at 20 weeks, but not for much later than that, and probably not from my mom. I didn't really pop until 21 or 22 weeks, and am only now (23 weeks) at the point where I really look pregnant to strangers. I was up about 12 to 15 lbs at 20 weeks, I don't know where that weight was going!
bananas / 9973 posts
Oh yeah, I could have hidden it for quite a while longer depending on how I dressed! At 20 weeks, it looked more like a food baby or bloat than anything.
In a tight dress and a drapey jersey dress at 20 weeks.

I didn't tell my coworkers until I was 19.5 weeks and no one really suspected anything before that. I didn't have a stranger comment until I was 33 weeks pregnant. I was/am overweight and only gain about 12 pounds the whole time.

@Anonysquire: Here I am at 20 weeks. I am also 5'7" (with a long torso), but unlike other lucky posters (like @SorryCharlie :D), I had already gained 15ish pounds at this point. You could totally hide it.

@BelugaBean: I was also trying to emphasize my bump - I wanted one so badly! (I didn't really pop until about 28 weeks).

I could have hidden it at work at 20 weeks, but NOT from my mom or anyone who knew me well. They thought I was enormous (for me) by about 16 weeks.

Not pregnant yet, but I just gotta say I love seeing all of these week 20 baby bumps! It's so different for everyone.
pomegranate / 3516 posts
@MsLipGloss: Yeah, I thought I looked so big, I think because I wanted to be big so badly. I went to get my hair cut around 20 weeks and the person cutting my hair said she didn't know I was pregnant until I said something. I was shocked and kind of disappointed.
When I was 21 weeks, we went to spend time with some of DH's coworkers and nobody knew I was pregnant until I said something in order to get people to stop asking if I wanted a drink other than water. Again, I was disappointed.

@anonysquire: I'm only 15 weeks, but I think it's getting noticeable, at least to people who know me (though I'm sure it's way more noticeable to me than anyone else). But even if I could hide it, I'd just look like I was getting fat. Unless I had a really good reason to hide it, I'd really rather people know I'm pregnant and not just getting fat for no reason. When I wear fitted tops I have what I think is a cute bump, but if I wear loose clothes I tend to look kind of frumpy and heavy.
I'm 5'7" and average weight, but I had a pretty weak core to begin with, so I do think my belly is popping out earlier than someone with strong abs.

This was me at 20 weeks with my third. I could have definately still hid it.

I had an obvious bump at 17 weeks to anyone that knew me. Here I am at 20 weeks:

There was no way I could have hidden it at 20 weeks, I had lost some weight (almost 20 lbs) due to hyper emesis at this point. This picture was 22 weeks:

I didn't show for ages! At 21 weeks (pic below), I just looked a bit chubby and could have easily hidden the pregnancy. For reference, I'm 5'8 with the world's shortest torso.

Dang! Really everyone is so different, I guess I won't know til I get pregnant. Thank you everyone for posting pics! And also, how do you know if you have a long or short torso? I feel like mines just normal but I don't even know anymore.
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
@sslm: hmm, shirts seem to fit ok here. Although I do wear a lot of unisex scrubs and jackets so now I'm not sure. Actually some of my shirts are short, I always wear longer undershirts.

This is me at 20 weeks last week, and if my mom saw me in person, she'd definitely do a double take. (I'm 5'7" too, for the record.) I think I started really showing around 16 weeks or so, though I thought I was looking preggo before, and had to start wearing maternity pants at 8 weeks because anything else was totally uncomfortable. You yourself will definitely notice it more than anyone else will, but methinks you would more than likely have a tough time hiding it for half the pregnancy (not to mention hiding all the other random things that go along with being pregnant and hormonal)!
pomegranate / 3329 posts
Nope, I "facebook" announced at 20 weeks but almost everyone knew already.
I'm short 4'11

This thread is so much fun!! I can't believe the difference between everyone. The body is pretty amazing!
cherry / 189 posts
I agree - it depends on height, weight, tone pre-pregnancy. I was pushing out my bump in this picture - but I am only 5'3" with a short torso, so I had nowhere to put my little guy...I think I may have gotten away with looking pudgy, it wasn't until 21-22 weeks that it was kind of unmistakable that I was preggo.
Maxi Dresses may help! Although sometimes when I wear one it makes me look further along...gah! So hard to dress a pregnant body!
