Unfortunately, my period returned quickly after giving birth.. I just started progesterone only birth control pill yesterday and I hope it doesn't cause any problems with breastfeeding!
Do you take any birth control?

As soon as baby SilverLining slides out, my Mirena IUD is sliding back in. Since we got pregnant the first time in 5 years we didn't use protection, I'm taking no chances!

I do, but I'm not breastfeeding. I'm on the one where you get your period every 3 months. It helps with the migraines since my period gives me migraines.

I have Mirena. She's going to be our only so I wanted something I didn't need to remember (was on bcp for 10yrs) until he gets a vasectomy.

Be careful Mirena ladies! A good friend of mine just got pregnant with twins while having a Mirena in place (and at less than a year after having given birth.)
Obviously she has some freaky good fertility, but still... I will forever be nervous about Mirena because of her!

@MegWag: I’ve heard stories like that, but it worked for me for several years without issue (and with no period, woot woot). No b/c is 100% effective, but my doctor said Mirena is at least as effective as sterilization, so, I’ll take my chances ;-p

@Mrs. Bee: @yoursilverlining: I'm sure it's a total fluke. (Knowing this friend, she always has things of the lowest statistical possibility happening to her!) We've decided that she just has super eggs

@MegWag: i think i will still take my chances because condoms have a pretty high failure rate, and i don't want to take a daily pill. my mom told me to get my tubes tied!

@MegWag: Your friend's story makes me nervous. I have an appointment to put an IUD in place as well.

I'm on Mirena - was told it's better than BCP (as far as chances of getting pregnant). Anyone have problems getting pregnant after using Mirena - this is my fear. Would like to have baby #2 in a couple of years and am worried that I'll have issues. I haven't heard any but had a friend who did the shots and then when trying for baby #2 had to do fertility b/c the shots really messed w/ her cycle....?

I really don't ever want to go on the pill again if I can avoid it. I've been thinking about Mirena. Secretly, I would really like to use the NFP method, since I was very regular between going off the pill and getting pregnant, but I'm worried that I'll miss the first signs of ovulation after baby is born and wind up preggo again way too quickly! Ideally we'll probably wait another 3 years or so before trying for #2...

@theknest: I had Mirena in for almost 3 years, had it removed and immediately went back to a normal, very regular 30 day cycle. We used condoms fora couple of months, and then I got pregnant the first time we didn't use any protection. So, for me, no correlation between Mirena and trouble getting pregnant. Hope this helps

We got pregnant the first time we were bold on an ovulation day and too lazy to get out of bed for a condom. And apparently if you have twins, you still have good odds of having another set of twins. It'll be condoms and whatever pill the doc recommends while feeding! Imagine having FOUR children under two years old! Eek!

I use the mini pill and they aren't strong at all. I didn't realize that it really needs to be taken every 24 hours as soon I as miss one my period starts, I now have a daily reminder set in my phone.

@oliviaoblivia: no, I'm carrying the results of my first bold night! Sorry wrote that poorly. I'm just terrified of getting caught again, especially before these little monsters at least pass their first birthday! Apparently it does happen more often than you would think- my pharmacist knows a lady who had twins, then a singleton, then got caught and had twins again! She had five children under the age of four! I think I'd be signing myself into the nearest mental hospital lol...

@MegWag: What happened to her? What did the doctors do about the pregnancy?
persimmon / 1135 posts
@MsMamaBear: They got the IUD out ASAP and she's now at 16 weeks and doing well! It's been rough on her as her previous pregnancy involved twins as well and one of them died in utero at 24 weeks. She was able to keep them both in until 30 weeks when she delivered. The surviving twin is really thriving now and she's having some flashbacks with this pregnancy, but coping amazingly well! It's a pretty amazing story all told...

I was on the mini pill for several months. I was also breastfeeding and had no issues with supply. You do have to be super careful about the timing. You take the pill same time every day and you only have a 3 hr window if you forget.

@MegWag: That's good! I've read it could have horrible consequences. Glad everything is looking good for her.

@MsMamaBear: Yeah, there was a crazy-high risk of miscarriage initially. She was joking that she'd now been downgraded from ultra-mega-high-risk to just regular old high risk. Like I said, she's got a great attitude about it!
