I had the same issue--my son was going to be almost 3 when my second was due to be born. I had planned to potty train during my second trimester when my older son was 2.5, but never ended up feeling well enough to do it. I just started potty training him two weeks ago--my son is 3 yrs 1 month and my baby is almost 4 months. So far, so good, and I'm really glad I waited. Squatting down to help my child get on and off the potty, doing messy cleanups, etc., would have been difficult while pregnant and pretty much impossible during postpartum recovery. Also, at least for us, potty training has not been a quick process, so I feel it's been better to do it at a time when I know I'm good for the long haul--not right before I would be out of commission with a new baby.

I waited but DD was 25 months when DD2 was born. For us, it was a very long process so I would start sooner rather than later! We started at 26 months and it took her until 2.5 to get the hang of it. By 2.5 she could actually go by herself (pull down her leggings, sit on her potty seat, use flushable wipes and could pull her undies and leggings back up), I would be within sight but if I had to put baby down or stop nursing - it at least saved me some time before an accident occurred (but I would still go help her, wash her hands and clean the potty seat). Between 2.5-3, she has gotten the hang of it pretty well but still there have been a few accidents (1 a month usually) and sometimes I just have to hold baby while helping her. It's tough but you just learn to deal.

We did it before. LO1 was 2.5 when we trained and LO2 arrived just before he turned 3. But by then he had had almost 6 solid months of training under his belt, and about 4 months of being completely diaper free. We had regressions for a few weeks after LO2 was born, but nothing horrible (just more frequent accidents), and then things went back to normal.

we potty trained our then 26 month old about 2 months before baby came. I was petrified of doing it but she was slated to start a little preschool that required the students be potty trained. We got so lucky in that she took to it. I expected regression 2 months later when baby arrived, but she didn't.

We potty trained LO by 27m and baby arrived at 28m. There was no regressions but even now 9m later she needs help wiping and some days she just can't possible get on the toilet by herself!! Even though she's fully capable.
My older was definitely ready and I didn't want two in diapers if we could help it!

I waited because of the regressions i had heard about from other friends with 2 kids. She was almost 2.5 yrs when she was potty trained. Dd2 was born when she was 27 months.

We are in the midst of this now. C is only 20 months but she was showing some ready signs so we used this long weekend to try the 3 day method. Today was day 3 and she had no accidents !! I was shocked it worked so quickly. I know she's young, but she's going to have so many changes this summer - big girl bed, new room, and baby that I didn't want to add potty training on top of it. We are far enough out now that she will have time to get used to it before baby comes. I'm hoping it sticks !!
