I'm still fairly new around here, but I just wanted to see if I could get some support and hear from other experiences. I'm 27w+2d. I've had no issues with blood pressure prior to pregnancy or throughout it. Yesterday, my blood pressure shot up to 180/110. DH took me to labor and delivery. My blood pressure is still up, but it has come down to the 150s/90s. I have protein in my urine and I've been diagnosed with preeclampsia. They've put me on magnesium and they said I will not be going home until our baby boy is born. I'm not tolerating the mag very well and my blood pressure has bottomed out twice, so they've turned it down to see how I do. We're just making small goals and right now we are trying to keep him in until Friday. If we make that goal we will keep extending it. I would really appreciate anyone who has been through this to tell me their experience and how their baby did. The neonatologist is coming today to prepare us, but it's always helpful to hear some real life stories. Thank you.

No advice, but I'm sorry you're dealing with this! I had a close friend on hospital bedrest for 13 weeks with her twins (but due to pre-term labor instead). The mag was nasty stuff, but it helped! I hope it all settles down soon.

I have no experience but just wanted to tell you I'm thinking about you and hoping your LO stays in there to keep cooking! It sounds like you are in great hands and your doctors are doing all the can to keep you and baby boy healthy!

I didn't have preeclampsia, but I went I to labor at 23 and was on mag for a full 2 weeks! I ended up delivering at 25 and 2. Mag is worst at first, then you kind of get used to it. My biggest advice is to 1) start making your room comfy with plans to stay there for quite awhile. I had a desk calendar on the wall where we would cross of days and everyone who came to visit would sign it. I also got a rolly cart to store stuff. 2) see if you can tour the NICU. I imagine the staff had already come to talk to you, but know that they get updates on you every day and already have a space ready for your LO. I found that comforting. I was never able to leave my room, but it would have been nice to have a picture of where he would go when born.
And then find something to occupy your time. I read Game of thrones while in the hospital and DH would bring dinner every night. We even had a "date night" where he got a little fancier dinner and stayed the night.
The situation sucks. And I hope you are able to last a long time, but I know lots of micropreemies now and so many really great outcomes. My 25 weeker spent a long time in the NICU but he's almost 2 now and has no major issues whatsoever.

Sending you lots of luck and positive thoughts. I did not have preeclampsia but I did go into (unexplained) preterm labor at 30 wks and delivered at 30+5days. I was on mag for 2 days, it was awful but I got through it!
The doctors and nurses and NICU was amazing. You are in good hands. Hang in there!

I was only on mag post c-section for 36 hours due to pre-e but it was awful, so sorry you're going through this! As a twin mom, I know so many whose babies were born super-early, some even before 27 weeks. It's not an easy road but the good news is the advances in modern medicine mean the prognosis is excellent for your baby! I hope he stays in utero for several more months and the hospital stay is as pleasant as possible!

@Mrs.ThinMint: I delivered my daughter at 25 weeks due to severe preeclampsia. She is now 8 weeks old, so we are in the thick of NICU life right now. Like you, I had absolutely no problems with blood pressure or anything else. One night I started throwing up non-stop. I went to the ER in the morning and my BP was 186/110. I was immediately transferred by ambulance to a hospital with a NICU. I was on mag that day and got one steroid shot, but after monitoring me and baby for a few hours they decided that continuing the pregnancy wasn't safe for either of us so we delivered immediately. Hang in there mama! I'll wall you.

I have a good friend who delivered at 28+3 (unrelated to pre-e). Baby had a long NICU stay but she's now 4 and is healthy as a horse. No lasting complications and happy as can be. Hugs!!

I haven't been in your shoes but I'm thinking of you! I spent a long time in the hospital after an accident and used the time to improve my knitting. It was detailed enough to take my mind off of how much I hated being there and at the end of the day I could see what I accomplished. That, and all of the trashy mags my husband delivered during the brief visiting windows, were key to preserving my sanity. I wish you and your LO the best.

I had HELLP syndrome which is a version of pre-e. I was 33w 4d along with my twins when they figured out I had it. My blood pressure was ok when I went in for a non stress test, but they kept me at the hospital since I had high levels of protein in my urine. My blood pressure spiked that afternoon to 180/110.
They gave me a steroid shot for the kids lungs, but they couldn't wait the 24 hours before delivering them I had a c-section that evening. My boys weighed 4lbs1oz and 4lbs13oz. L was in the NICU for 3 weeks and E was there for 4 weeks. It took a month after I delivered and being on meds for my blood pressure to go back to normal which isn't normally the case (most women have their blood pressure go back to normal right after delivery).They are 20 months now and doing really well! E is heavier and taller than my 3 year old niece! They are both on track developmentally too!
A girl I met through my midwife who was also pregnant with twins had the same complication and delivered a day before me. Her kids had about the same NICU stay that my boys did. Her kids are doing well developmentally too.
It was really stressful and scary at the time, but we had a great team at the hospital. Thinking of you and your LO! Sorry for the novel! If you want to chat feel free to wall me!

Thank you everyone for all the responses. It really helps me be less noxious about everything. My OB is thinking it will be unlikely if I can keep in in longer than a week from now. The Neonatologist came by and while what she said was very scary I do feel much more prepared.

One of the important take home messages is that every day counts. 27 and 1 is better than 27 and 0 and so on. Just take each day as a victory and that outcomes change dramatically in short timeframes.

@Mrs.ThinMint: My good friend was admitted to the hospital with pre-e at 25 weeks and spent a week there before they delivered her daughter at 26 weeks. I think she was in the NICU for nearly four months, but now she is 16 months old and thriving. I agree with @Mrs. Jacks that every day counts.
My friend had someone come and teach her knitting during her stay and she started a baby blanket for her LO.

I'm so sorry you're going through this! I haven't had it but a good friend was diagnosed at 24 weeks. She spent about a month in the hospital, they let her go home for a week but then she was right back. They were totally taking it day by day but she made it to 34 weeks and baby boy only spent a few days in the nicu. So you never know! Just take every day as a victory like mrs jacks said. We will be rooting for you!
