Did you get professional photos done to announce your pregnancy and/or just get general pregnancy photos? How much did it cost and what did it include?

I think a professional photo for an announcement would definitely be a bit much, but lots of people get maternity photos. Prices in my area are around 300-500... I think. But I didn't want them!

And by a bit much, I mean that I've never seen announcement photos offered. I'd imagine it would be like engagement photos..
There are newborn/maternity packages offered by lots of photographers too.

We're having pro pics for our announcement BUT we were already scheduled for family pics so we'll just include them. The photographer is a friend of ours so he charges us almost nothing.

I have never heard of having professional photos taken just to announce your pregnancy. Not my style-- but if you already have photos planned like @runsyellowlites, I think it's cool.
If you need to have a pro take them, why not go to the Picture People or someone comparable? There are always coupons.

I've never seen 'announcement' photos, but rather like a family mini session and the family will bring a prop of some sort (e.g. little booties or a onesie). I agree that maternity photos are much more common. I've seen mini-sessions for around $250. If you liked your wedding photographer you may want to check with them too!

@MSBartlett: I would find a friend with a good camera. Some places may offer that as part of a maternity package. I'm having my brother take a few next weeked after we tell everyone.
