The good news is that they were rescued. But this is really sad! I think I would instantly bawl if I heard a child say, "My mommy is trying to kill us!"

That is incredibly upsetting.
The comments are pretty bad - I shouldn't have bothered. I really hope those kids are okay and not scarred from their mother (allegedly) trying to kill them. Can you even imagine the fear in those kids as the whole ordeal was happening?! ::shudder::

@swurlygurl: I ignore comment sections now. If you read them you lose all faith in humanity.

@mrsjazz: I know, I try, but I always hope to see a comment from someone that knows the situation better and has additional information. It's only happened like once, so I don't know why I keep looking

Mental health issues are so often overlooked and ignored. This whole situation is terrible, but I have to believe that she is literally sick and that in her sane mind would never do this to her children. I hope they all recover.

Ugh this made me instantly sick to my stomach.
I have a 10 yr old and a 7 year old as well as the baby and I just. I just can't.

@OpinionsLikeKittens: Yeah, the article says the Mom was incoherent. This is why I avoided the comment section--so many people misunderstand mental health and are quick to villify the mom--yes, obviously what she did was wrong & horrible--but she needs help, too.

No matter what the reason, I feel sad for the kids. The way they felt will probably forever be with them.

Oh how awful, I'm so glad they're all (physically) okay. I really hope that mom gets the help she needs.

I just saw the video on the news and teared up big time. Thank God people were around to get those kids out. A mother is supposed to protect her children, not harm them. I hope she gets the help she needs.

I just saw it on the news too. So sad that the police talked to her just before this but did not intervene, and thank goodness those people were able to get the kids out.

@mrsjazz: A similar situation happened in my home town a few years ago. A mom drove her van into the Hudson River and unfortunately, three out of the four children drowned. I remember hearing about it at the time and being beyond upset. Now that I'm a mother, I just can't imagine. I hate that anyone gets to that place mentally that they feel the need to act in such a way

@mrsjazz: wow! I couldn't handle hearing that. It makes me think she TOLD them she was going to kill them because they wouldn't think it happened on purpose. Kids that age would think it was an accident and would say "mommy help me" instead of screaming "help! My mom is trying to kill us." Ya know?
So so sad:(

Ugh. I hope those kids can recover from that. Mental illness or not, how do you ever trust your mom again?

@Grace: I'd take a while to go back to being a big happy family after this... I can't even imagine how those kids feel.
