I had one at 32 weeks at a resort, and they had me lay on my side and gave me a pillow to put between my knees. It was very comfortable and I ended up falling asleep.

Table with a hole!!!! Being able to lay on your stomach in the third tri is a luxury in and of itself.
The place I went to has a heated gel recess that forms to your bump. Heaven.

@Tanjowen: That sounds like my prenatal message, except I didn't fall asleep, although I came close!
It was lying on your side with a ton of pillows. Soooooo comfortable!!

@regberadaisy: That's what I'm thinking, too! I loooove lying on my stomach and I miss it so much! I'm so excited for this massage and I'm so glad they have the table w/hole option!

@psw27: @Tanjowen: @Adira: I'm curious about this sidelying position... Is the pressure they use limited because you're rocking back and forth? No? I like loooots of pressure in my massages.

@ineebee: yah I lay on my side all the time during maternity.

@ineebee: Mine started out with me laying on my stomach, but the pressure on my chest was a little much after about 20 minutes so I flipped over to my back but the table propped up so I wasn't flat on my back. It was so comfortable!

@ineebee: I'm not sure. That was my one and only massage! My back felt better afterwards though, so I feel like she used enough pressure.

I've had both and I much prefer the table with the hole cut out. Not that many places offer it as I have read that some don't think it's a good idea.
But if you're in Chicago, go to Urban Oasis. Heaven!

Face down with the cut out was amazing. My favorite is when then don't make me flip over to my back halfway through. Also, the boob cut outs are heavenly too. I wish the chiropractor had those! I will be requesting the boob cut puts at my next massage just bc of breastfeeding.

Mine has a special pillow they put down. It's awesome. Weirdly I found I was super sensitive to touch and I normally loved deep massages but can only handle really gentle ones right now.

I have one scheduled for tonight! My usual massage therapist just does side-lying with body pillow supports & it's reasonably comfortable. I've never been on a cut-out table, but have heard from massage therapists over the years that they don't feel it's worth their investment to get those tables, since every pg woman is different. I guess the fit isn't always quite right. I would love, however, to try the gel-filled recess that @regberadaisy: had! Sounds awesome!!

sidelying and lots of pillows. I LOVED it! I ended up getting two. I have a gift card for the same place from BIL and SIL for this time, and I am so excited to use it in the third tri.

I got one for vday and was side lying...unfortunately that wasn't as relaxing for my neck as it could have been but other wise, it was still nice

In my 3rd tri I've only had massages lying on my side. They were okay, but not the best. With my first pregnancy I had a massage in my 2nd tri where I got to lay on my belly and it was wonderful!

I've had both and the table with the cutout was agonizing for me! She didn't line me up with the cutout perfectly so when she applied pressure on my lower back she ended up grinding my belly into the table, which hurt so much. I didn't want to say anything, but I had to hunch up to protect my belly.

@spaniellove: You didn't say anything?? Aww you poor thing! I'll make sure that I'm lined up correctly from the beginning. Didn't know that that could happen!
I think I'm gonna start with the table with the cut-out, and then see if I can switch to side-lying if it gets too uncomfortable. I don't think I can bear missing the opportunity to lie face-down after not being able to do it for so long!

I've only had one laying on my side with a pillow, while comfortable I would much rather have had one laying flat, I'm a tummy sleeper I dream of the day I can do it again

@spaniellove: why didn't you say anything?!?
@ineebee: enjoy!!

I just went to my first prenatal massage and she massaged me on my side. She she said she doesn't do the cut out hole because she is afraid of placental abruption. Not sure that's even possible but the side massage was still really great.

@ineebee: That late in the pregnancy, any amount of pressure felt like heaven. It wasn't a lot of pressure, but I didn't care at all and just wanted to be pampered because I was big and somewhat miserable.
