Geez that should seem obvious...

I left LO with DH and BIL yesterday while SIL and I went shopping/out to dinner. LO had been napping when I left. When I got home a few hours later he was up, but miserable. Cried when I held him, cried when anyone held him. DH and I decide to head home (we were at BILs), and I went to change his diaper and put him in PJs before we left.

Apparently he had taken a massive poop for DH, and DH didn't get it all cleaned off before putting on a new diaper...he says he was too busy gagging and didn't notice. It wasn't a ton, maybe a teaspoon's worth altogether, but I imagine that sitting in it and it rubbing him left his butt bright red and super sensitive to the touch. Like any pressure at all on it had him screaming. No bueno.

I couldn't hold him down to clean it all off with a wipe so I tried to put him in the tub, but he wouldn't sit down and screamed bloody murder when I tried to wash it, so I finally started the shower and got in with him to clean him up.

Putting cream and a new diaper on took both me and SIL holding him. It's looking better today but is still pretty red in a lot of places. He's refused to be put down. When I try he just stands and gives me the saddest, most pained-sounding scream, so I've spent almost all day holding him but trying not to put pressure on his butt. Luckily he's been clinging (arms around the neck) so I'm not supporting 25+lbs of dead weight. Diaper changes have been hell today.

ANYWAY, long story short, make sure you clean all of the poop off. Even if it smells so bad you're gagging.
