Does anyone know if your cervix can dilate and then reclose? Or is it dr/midwife error? Can something cause your cervix to close? Yesterday I went in for an induction and the first midwife said she could get 2 fingers in my cervix and stretch it. This morning after 16 hours of cervidil the doctor said my cervix was closed. Is this possible? Was the first midwife wrong? I wish I had asked at the time but I was so upset at the time after 3 failed induction I didnt think of all these questions.

I've had friends go backwards while dilating during labor-I was under the impression theirs was due to swelling? I don't know, just wondering if that's what could be happening.

@blackbird: that wouldn't surprise me with the amount my cervix has been poked and prodded.

Swelling makes sense. Sooooo frustrating. I'm sorry you have gone through all that! I'm sure the worst part is mental/emotional...and of course, hormones don't help with that! I hope your BP stays under control and baby cooks a little longer, then joins you via an easy delivery!

In Ina May's book, she talked about the cervix "going backward" due to stress and stuff like that, so I'm not surprised that it's possible given your circumstances. Sending hugs!
