I can't figure out how i feel about this article. It seems so generalized and like it perpetuates all the cultural gender stereotypes that I try to avoid but it's been very true for us. I know that Boys and Girls brains do develop differently. What do you guys think?

lol @ #6. I went to the ER because of suspected meningitis when I was less than a year old. My little bro went to the ER at 2 or 3 because he wouldn't listen to stop running around and he split his lip open on a Sega console and had to get 3 sticthes.

It's been very true for our boy (22 months) as well. I didn't believe all the stereotypes before I was a mom...and of course I ended up with the total stereotypical boy! He's so sweet and loving, but man is he exhausting!

Most of this isn't true for us, specifically #2, #3, #4, #5, #6 and #8. My son is a cautious kid and we rarely (if even, ever) have had to worry about him running away, falling off the couch, jumping off anything, etc. He is also going through a phase where he is extremely selective about his clothing and getting him dressed in the morning can be super frustrating! He can also spend a good amount of time sitting and colouring, painting, playing with stickers or fine motor activities.
The ones that are true are his obsession with planes, trains and automobiles, his goofiness and extreme mommy preference, and the fact that his pee shoots several feet!

Um, we took our son to the ER for his first stitches last week. He's 17 months.
I think these are more dependent on the child's personality than anything inherently "boy" or "girl." but ugh, check out the "girl list." This woman had a big problem with her girls jutting out their hips and posing in their bikinis, but not with sharing the pic on a national website? I don't think so.

I think it's pointless frankly. What purpose do these articles serve? There's no way to know what's inherent and what's learned. Last play date everyone made a huge deal that a little girl was playing with trucks and my son was carrying a doll. They weren't saying anything mean or bad but the fact of pointing it out reinforces that it's unexpected. Articles like this just irritate me because they aren't anything but harmful, in my opinion. Kids should be encourage to do play say what they like when they like instead of constantly being told what girls do, what boys do, etc. it just limits everyone.

I'm curious whether our boy will fit the stereotype or not, because I am so not into most of the typical boy stuff. I hate trucks and cars and sports themed stuff, and I'm usually the one that buys the toys and clothes and stuff.

DS is 1 and is definitely a ball of energy and has zero concept of fear. Edge of bed or couch? Let's go! Climb stairs even though I fell off of them backwards once already - it's okay! Let's go again! Sigh.
He's definitely momma's boy and I love the smile and excitement he gets when I go to pick him up from daycare. I don't have a girl yet so I can't "compare", but all the things the article mentions, I can see that happening easily and naturally.

I am finding this to be more true of my daughter than my son! She is the one that zooms cars all over, she's the busy one. DS is totally content to sit on the deck with a bucket of water and a toy, but DD is constantly moving everywhere. She's the reckless one that is going to end up in the ER. DS has more clothes than she does, too.
I think this is more of a 10 Things about raising KIDS, not boys. Well, at least from my family's perspective:)

@dagret: ugh. I didn't buy all the frilly things for my daughter - the big giant headbands, the frilly socks..I went basic! I'm a plain person. she is absolutely girlier than me though..she prefers a "pretty dress" over a t and shorts. sigh. she definitely has loved purses/bags from an early age and does hoard things. LOL. but aside from that, I feel like both articles are such generalizations..
the boys in my family, I will say, are WILD. they make me so nervous about having a son. always hurting themselves, never stop moving, etc.

@ShootingStar: same. But then LO fell in live with the one book about trucks we had and the one ball we owned. Grandparents caught wind and now everything is balls and trucks.
I think it's 75% him and that he would've been interested in that stuff anyway. And 25% encouraged. I think if he had been a girl and I mentioned to Grandma he loved trucks, she would be less likely to bring her car toys and shirts and stuff.

@Alivoo01: I wonder if that's just the characteristics of a 1-year old? DD does all those things too.

D does adore me, but for the most part he's always been calm and orderly. His only trip to the ER has been when he got a nerd's candy stuck up his nose, lol.He does love vehicles, though.
But, M has a completely different personality than D does, so I may be in for it this time around.
