I don't think I've experienced lightning crotch yet! I'm so intrigued though. What is it?

@Torchwood: It's a stabbing, shocking pain in the pelvis/crotch, usually late in pregnancy, I think due to pressure from the baby on the cervix. For me it's what I imagine being hit in the vag with an electrified baton of some sort must feel like. I remember trying to push away from the pain (it was also random and sudden but over fast). Sometimes it radiated down into my upper thighs. My midwife said it was normal.

Also, drool. I drooled so much, especially when I was sleeping. My pillow was always soaked.

For me not so much lightening crotch but the dreaded 'vagina bone breaking in half' feeling. Like all.the.time in my 3rd tri. I HATED that feeling.

I had a very easy pregnancy, with the exception of the awful pain that @prettylizy had. Oh what I wouldn't have given for some Advil (or Vicodin!) during that last trimester....

I didn't realize how much I would enjoy being pregnant. I loved seeing my belly grow (for once, I didn't have to suck it in!), I loved feeling every kick and movement, and I loved bonding with the baby inside me - something no one else could do at that time.

Oh, I forgot that there was one thing I found out that I didn't know. Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) is common in pregnancy. I had it last time, went away after m/c, and it's back already at 4w2d.

That my hair would fall out in clumps!!

@BabyBoecksMom: aww, totally agree with this! i was terrified of being pregnant, and of being a mom and scared i wouldn't bond with my baby...but i can't believe how quickly i fell in love with her and how much i'm enjoying it so far

@LovelyPlum: I'd always heard your hair stops falling out during pregnancy, but you could make a wig out of the hair I shed these days!

I had no idea the baby would move so much!

Did not know at all that you could get: sciatic nerve pinching, change in smell or bitter taste on the tongue, congestion, nose bleeds/gum bleeding... all of which I've either experienced or read about in my baby books.

I just didn't realize that I would be able to feel body parts. I was rubbing my belly last night and all the sudden she pushed her back into me and I thought, "HOLY CRAP I can feel a backbone!"

Also, I didn't know that babies like to pick sides. She has consistently been on my right side and my belly is extremely lopsided.

@Pirouette: I woke up with blurry vision, no contacts in. Freaked me out. What the hormones do to vision is amazing to me. I never thought that it would be a pregnancy thing.

I didn't realize your organs and ribs actually move around to accommodate baby. I guess it's obvious but I never thought about it before. My ribs practically rose up under my boobs to make room!

Also, this might be dumb but I didn't think you had postpartum bleeding after a c-section. When the nurse gave me the big pads I was like 'uhhh what are these for, I had a c-section' lol. I still don't know what happens to your mucous plug if you have a c-section. I guess they just take everything out?

Carpal tunnel.
Reappearing morning sickness in the 3rd tri
Not being able to sleep on your back. Or roll over.
Nosebleeds.
Leaking pee.
Leaking boobs.

The third trimester pretty much made me lose the will to live lol

I definitely did not know that morning sickness could extend all day long. I also didn't know that you could have it throughout your entire pregnancy.

And, OMG, lightning crotch! I didn't know there was a name for it!

@Running Elley: yes on the bladder kicking! I tried to describe it to DH because he asked what it felt like, and the best I could come up with was "you know the feeling when you've been in the car too long and Need. To. Go. Now but still have 15 minutes until you reach a restroom? Imagine that comin on in the span of 2 seconds, just as someone is sucker-punching you in the crotch. THAT'S why I jump and run so fast."

I didn't know that your voice can change. The wife of a friend of a friend is an opera singer and had to learn all new repertoire post-pregnancy because her voice deepened and she went from being a soprano to a mezzo-soprano.

Dry eyes (leading to uncomfy, blurred contacts) are driving me nuts.

I didn't realize how my belly button would slooowly disappear -- for some reason, I thought it would stay normal and then just pop at some point. Every morning, I get out of the shower and mourn my previously cute belly button as it stretches and morphs into all kinds of weird-looking iterations.

I had/have horrible wrist pain. I couldn't lift anything and now 9 days pp having a neck of a time holding the baby and boob with this insane pain. And carpal tunnel....so not fun!
Instead of puking during first trimester ms it came out the other way...that was interesting

Leg cramps! I got them every night for a couple weeks...could barely walk!
