DH works in a very niche and highly competitive field and has been looking for a new job for literally 5 years. He was so unhappy in his old job that he resigned 3 weeks ago. We just found out that he got a job offer at a fairly prestigious institution - in a different city. I work in marketing/advertising and I suspect I could find a job there.
Here's are the problems:
The job is only a 2 year contract, there is a chance it could become permanent but there's no timeline for that decision
The pay is less than half of what I make and not enough to support our family (I make enough to support us, for a while at least)
I love my job in our current city
We own our home, like where we live and have a good network here
Neither of us are particularly keen to move to this other city and I've never even been there
Would you:
Pass on the job and have a really sad husband who would miss out on a possible career stepping stone?
Take the job, move, and I can find another job that I hope I'll like and just see what happens when 2 years are up?
Figure out a way for him to go on his own until the long term prospects there are more certain?
A few other factors:
The new city is a 3 hour flight away
We have a 2 year old son
