I just sent out LO's first birthday invites and have been thinking about his 'wish list' since my Mom asked.
I see riding toys like the wheely bug or a trike mentioned a lot - is there a list somewhere of the different options? Anyone have a favorite? I feel like I'm not even sure which is what.

Well we have a schwinn trike and TBH I'm not a fan, esp for the price. The wheels are plastic which isn't terrible but after only 1-2 weeks of having it, the wrong wheel squeaks SO badly I don't even use it!
Albeit more expensive, I've heard good things about the joovy trike.

We have the wheely bug. LO has never been a big fan, which is a shame, because it's adorable.

We have one...not sure what brand it is since it was a hand me down. It could be used as a push toy or transformed into a riding toy. DD has always liked it. She's 14 months and just now starting to sit on it and propel herself back and forth.

We got E this trike for his first birthday. Right now it's just a glorified stroller, but it steps up in stages and eventually becomes a regular trike, so we'll get a lot of use out of it. He loves his trike and gets so excited when we ask if he wants to go for a ride.

We were considering the Radioflyer version of what @kiddosc posted. I think that's a great option!!
If your LO is more advanced with gross motor skills, then I would recommend a Strider (or any other brand) balance bike. http://www.amazon.com/Strider-PREbike-Balance-Running-Bike/dp/B0018N77TK
They are recommended once your child can start walking. My husband has always been against training wheels and the balance bikes are supposed to help a child learn to ride a 2-wheeler without ever needing training wheels. My LO is 17 months and he walked late but is starting to get the hang of the Strider.
