The news just reported that the royal baby's car seat is the Britax B Safe. Quite affordable for a future king!
Edit: It's actually the Baby Safe, sold in UK. Sorry!

Haha, I was right! We had that exact same seat.
It was actually the most expensive seat on the market at the time, much more than the popular maxi cosi.

@looch: when I saw it, I thought "nice seat!" Lol.

If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me!! We have the same one Although, ours looks a bit different (chest clip).

@mrsbookworm: I was bracing myself to read about some mult-thousand ultra high tech car seat vehicle thingy. Not that I ever got that impression from them. I'm glad they got something that everyone can buy.

@mrs. bird: Yeah I read that in the other thread. Just making an observation

@mrsbookworm: it's actually the Baby-Safe which is only available in the UK.

Interesting. I haven't seen the pictures but my friend was pretty sad that they didn't put the baby in correctly (swaddled, arms inside the shoulder straps. Did anyone else see this?

@brownie: yes! This also really really bothered me. No one commented on it either that I have seen (news etc).

@brownie: @Arden: yes! My sister and I couldn't believe it. That bothers me.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
How is he supposed to be strapped in? I don't understand how the car seat holds a baby in for the UK seat. Seems like if the arms are inside, the swaddled baby could slip up and out?
Eta I now Realize brownie meant he should NOT be swaddled with arms inside the straps. I read the parentheses as how it was supposed to be strapped in, ha. Derp.

Yeah I saw the pic and I was surprised the baby wasn't strapped in correctly. @brownie:

@blackbird: that's what I was wondering. In an accident that baby would fly out of the seat.

This convo turning to be so sad. Why are you so judgy of first time parents. They have enough pressure alone. I'm sure, someone will tell them that they shouldn't do that and that it won't happen again. Were you guys perfect when you took your LO home? I'm sorry to say it.
On a brighter note, Will looks so sexy holding that baby carrier. His mom is definitely smiling down on him.
nectarine / 2127 posts
@bluestriped bee: I don't think it's intended to be malicious, I think it's just surprise. I wasn't allowed to take LO out of the hospital until I strapped him in properly (and I had to do it, not a nurse). It's just weird that they didn't strap him in properly but maybe there are extenuating circumstances.
bananas / 9357 posts
@bluestriped bee: I'm not trying to be judgy & mean. I'm just shocked that the baby wasn't strapped in right. And I can tell you that I had our car seat inspected while pregnant and I learned how to strap my baby in properly before leaving the hospital.
coffee bean / 40 posts
Can you even imagine the pressure that was on them today? It is hard enough being day-old parents. Nobody is perfect - not even royalty - and I'm sure they will live and learn just like the rest of us!
grapefruit / 4136 posts
Well the good news is that they probably drove 15mph and had the safest convoy ride home I'm so happy for them and wish them luck on this incredible and frustrating journey! Maybe Kate will google something and end up on HB
grapefruit / 4110 posts
@bluestriped bee: I don't see anything judgy, mostly shock, concern, and trying to understand.
But then again, none of us are perfect, but so many people are going to be looking to them as an example. I know some people are going to judge how she gave birth, how she feeds him, etc. I could care less. I am definitely looking at this through an american viewpoint, but carseat safety is a big deal were I am. So it is kind of sad that this is what many people will think is appropriate.

I don't see any judgement here, but man, it was ALL OVER my facebook feed, and I was getting so mad. People forget that even though they're Royalty, they're also still just first-time parents, with additional pressure of having the entire world watching them! Talk about nerves!
persimmon / 1035 posts
@littlebug: you mean people on your facebook feed were talking about how the baby wasn;'t strapped in correctly?
I would never have thought anything looking at that picture. When I put my baby in the car I only adjust the straps once he is snapped into the base in the car. so i'm not sure how anyone can judge anything based on those pics, they weren't seen driving like that!
on another note, i have the b-safe and it looks very similar to this UK Baby safe version.

@PurpleUnicorn: yes, how do we know that Kate didnt reach over once William out him in the car to strap him in? We don't know, we shouldn't judge I wouldn't ever tighten the car seat straps until we put LO into the car seat base. So maybe they did the same? They were probably in a hurry to get him in the car and get home.
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
The strap was so loose I just immediately assumed they planned to adjust once in the car. I'm guessing they probably wanted him swaddled to provide maximum comfort/coverage as they walked by the press.
coconut / 8279 posts
@babyjmama: I was thinking the same! with the police motorcade and helicopters above, street patrol, etc. escorting them home, the baby could've been in her arms & still made it home safely.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@MamaMoose: @Pink Champagne: Agreed, that's what I figured! We don't really know what they did once they got in the car.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
The straps on that seat are the typical 5 point harness, with the over the shoulder and the over the thighs that we're used to in the US. It is one of the only 5 point harness infant buckets available in Europe and Australia, for some reason, most of the models feature a 3 point harness (over the shoulder and just between the legs). We chose this model because it was the one I was the most familiar with (being an American abroad).
The thing is that they are role models to millions of people all over the world. They should have properly belted their son in the car seat, motorcade or not. People see those images and unfortunately make assumptions that if it is good enough for the royals, it is good enough for them.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@looch: I agree, I don't think it was completely their fault because chances are they've never put a baby in a car seat before, they're probably just like normal stressed out first time parents..but shame on the hospital for letting them leave with him not strapped in properly.
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@bluestriped bee: I wasn't trying to judge them. I was just surprised no one said anything because, in our experience, the hospital made sure DS was strapped in properly before we left...otherwise we wouldn't have been able to leave.
honeydew / 7504 posts
@PurpleUnicorn: Yup. Baby Center, The Baby Guy....all kinds of media outlets just tearing them down. And the commenters were even worse.
I'm wondering what the British press has to say about it, if anything. I'd be anxious to hear their reaction to the US media's reaction to the photo.
bananas / 9628 posts
Meh. I assume she fixed it once he put the baby in the car. It would be great if they demonstrated safe carseat usage, but for all we know they did end up adjusting it. It's not like she pulled a Britney & drove with baby on her lap. I can't imagine how terrifying that drive was for him driving, I'm sure they'll figure it out for future use if they haven't already.
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
I didn't notice til I saw the photo but I'm going to assume they fixed it in the car, or, they'll figure it all out in time.
Just think of the older thread where so many people pointed out how many people would be incorrectly judging them on their safety 'skills' if they went by the pictures shared. Carseats, cribs, etc.
persimmon / 1035 posts
@littlebug: wow that's harsh. I feel bad for them. It was hard enough giving birth and going home from hospital was such a big deal, I can't imagine what it's like with the media hounding and criticizing your every move.
pineapple / 12526 posts
Im honestly of the opinion that they were just trying to get him in the car and get away from the media circus. I cant say I blame them. She probably reached over and fixed is after they escaped. I sure as hell didn't know how a carseat worked as a first time parent.
Lay off, seriously. I remember how stressful a newborn was. I can't imagine going through it wil billions of people's eyes on me.
