DH and I have a recipe for cheese fondue which is delicious but calls for some white wine.
I always hear that when cooking with wine it becomes no longer alcoholic, so would this be safe to eat while pregnant?

I wouldn't worry about small amounts in cooked food.
Sounds delicious!

I would. Even if some alcohol remains, think about how little you'd be consuming once the cup or whatever it calls for is mixed in with the other ingredients,

Perfectly fine! Some doctors even say having a half glass of wine occasionally is OK. We had fondue a few nights ago, so yummy Plus, you can even use unpasteurized cheeses if you want to, since they get cooked completely.

I would say yes. The alcohol burns off and its just there for flavor.

If the wine is cooked the alcohol will mostly cook away...and a tiny bit of alcohol is probably fine for you.

I just researched this yesterday actually because I wanted to put some tequila into refried beans I was making. What I found out was that when you cook alcohol, the alcohol content becomes LOWER but it does not completely disappear. The only time alcohol truly cooks off is when there is no liquid left, so like if you used wine in a marinade and then grilled the meat, the liquid is gone so the alcohol is gone. But as long as there is still liquid there IS still alcohol. The amount depends on how long/hot you cook it, what it is in, etc. But it seemed that for something liquid-y that you add it to and then cook for 30 min or so, the alcohol content would still be roughly 40-80% of the original alcohol content.
I opted not to use the tequila because I wasn't comfortable with it, but I think depending on how comfortable you are with consuming SOME small amount of alcohol and how much the recipe calls for-- you may be okay? It's just your comfort level.

I would be fine with it. Women in Switzerland don't stop consuming fondue because they are pregnant. Just don't dip your bread in the kirsch.

^ Yeah it never really totally burns off. I was always ok cooking something with a little booze and fbringing it to a boil, which pulled most of it out.

I asked my doctor about pasta sauces made with wine and she said that was fine (and delicious ), and she's in the no alcohol at all camp, so I'd assume fondue would be the same principle!

I agree-not all the alcohol burns off, but I personally was ok with consuming small amounts of alcohol while pregnant.

I would, but I'm also in the half a glass of wine camp, so take it with a grain of salt.

yup, no worries. I had a small glass of beer while pregnant. I'm not advising you to do that, but wine for cooking is probably not a big deal.

Ack, I ate fondue, no questions asked with my last two pregnancies. Then again, wine to me in small amounts isn't a huge deal while pregnant.
I did order tiramisu the other night and asked to take it back because the it was really rum heavy and I worry more about hard alcohol.

I read this thread late last night (another late night wake-up) and woke up craving fondue!!! I must have dreamt about it! I can not wait until LO can finally have some cheese/dairy.

I say go for it. It's probably equivalent to literally a couple of sips of wine, which I believe is totally okay.
