Did anyone who stayed at home put LO 1 in day care a fee days a week once LO 2 came along? I solo parent during the week (DH is in med school rotations) and all family is 2.5 hours away... Just wondering if anyone else thought about/ did this!

I only have 1 and WOH, but I definitely would try something like that if you think the transporting to and from is worth the hassle.

C will be starting preschool in the fall and I am hoping that we will grow our family next year too. Part of the motivation (when I registered him, I was preg but miscarried) was the idea of relieving my 2 kid juggling act for even a few hours a week.

How old is your LO? Even though LO#2 isn't here yet, we started LO in a preschool that meets 2 mornings a week last fall when she was 2.5. It was great for all of us, especially since I went back to school last fall, and I know it will be nice in September when #2 is here.

Yes my friend did this. She put her LO#1 in half day preschool 5 days per week when her LO#2 arrived. I think it worked out well. And I think I will do something like this too. But I also wonder how to manage all the drop offs/pick ups without some help too.

We'll be moving to CO this summer for DH's surgical fellowship. My daughter (2) will be going to a preschool 3 days a week in the fall. Even though I've always planned to SAH that year, she would've done that no matter what. Once I found out I was pregnant, I was REALLY happy that I'd have a couple days with just one kid. And, honestly, I'll probably even look at getting a nanny or something to help with new baby a couple hours a week, too, so I can have some solo time to workout/run errands/stay sane

I SAH and my son goes to daycare 2x a week. We live in a rural area cross country from all family for my husbands surgery fellowship so I literally have no help and my husband works a demanding job. It has been great for both of us -- he goes 930-4 and I do things like work out, run errands, get haircut, doc and dentist....so that we can just have family time on weekends. We move back east in a few months and he will start a pre school in the fall and baby2 arrives in December.

I have grandma, but if I didn't I would definitely put her in daycare if you can swing it

Yikes! If I have another it will be just.me. yikes!
I nannied for a sahm so that she could work out (I did 4 hour shifts). I think it helped her keep her sanity.

My older daughter isn't in daycare, but she is in Montessori school so I don't view it as child care. It certainly helps me, though! It's also great for her. She's really becoming a well rounded individual between school, doing play dates, and extra curricular activities. Go for it if you can spare the expense!
