I have decided to tag along with my husband on his next San Diego work trip. We are extending it for a weekend before, but we haven't booked any hotels yet. His office there is outside of the city, but we are thinking about staying downtown before heading to the hotel he normally uses for work. Any recommendations? Thanks!

We were there this summer and while we didn't stay downtown, we did stay at the Humphreys Half Moon Bay Inn and LOVED it. We had our car so it wasn't too far away from downtown and was really relaxing and quiet. Have fun - we loved San Diego!!

There are tons of hotels downtown! I'd search on tripadvisor, but I really like boutique hotels... There's a couple Kimpton hotels; Hotel Solymar (rooftop bar) and The Palomar. The W isn't quite walking distance from most places so I'd avoid it. There's a Hard Rock...The Andaz...so many choices!

Not in downtown but the Paradise Point is absolutely the best hotel out there! Private beach and you really feel as though you are staying at a resort. We've gone here with and without DD both experiences were great!

It is in the italy district and there are a couple of parks really close. We walked downtown for a night out. They were good with our little ones as well.

The Omni is classy and connected to the baseball stadium. US Grant is nice. Hard Rock is fun and in an awesome location at the base of the Gaslamp District. (Please eat at Nobu if you are interested in amazing food.) The W is quite a few blocks off the Gaslamp and my least favorite W of all time. The Marriott is near the Omni and the Hard Rock and nice too. Hotel Solymar is cool and maybe a little better priced. Like @Mrs Green Grass: said, the roof top bar is pretty fun.

@MrsMcD: W@woodentulip: We almost stayed at the Omni because my brother gave us a free night. The night wasn't available when we needed it though. I researched it though and it looked super nice. My brother highly recommended it. I think the parking was a bit high though.
