Anyone care to share their experiences working with a single OB instead of a group?
I've worked with a group in the past, and I liked that I knew someone would always be on call and I would know who was delivering my baby.
I fear with a single doctor that he could end up on vacation and I have to deal with a stranger? But I also figure, one OB has fewer patients than five OBs so maybe the odds are higher that I have someone I like do the delivery? (There was one doctor at the old practice I could not stand).
If you have a single OB, were they there for the actual delivery?
If you've had both single/group, which did you prefer and why?
ETA: The new doctor is also at a different hospital than where I had my daughter (big pro so I won't have as much PTSD going there) and a new women's center recently opened in the one he delivers at. Those seem like major pros.
I think I could have had the opportunity to meet my OB's backup doctors if I had wanted to, and that might have made it a little easier. By the time I "went into labor" the second time I had already been through 20 weeks of progesterone injections and 8 weeks of all day long contractions. I was DONE haha
Knowing my ob liked the drs was good enough for me. But had I had any concerns I am sure I could have dropped by their office to meet their midwives/obs.
congratulations!!!
