DD 1 is turning 3 in 2 months so I'm in the hunt for a cake recipe.
Thinking about a strawberry shortcake!
Which recipe did you use for your LO's last birthday?

Wacky cake du to multiple allergies. I want to try it with strawberries to see if I can make a strawberry cake.

I used Warren Brown's yellow butter cake and chocolate butter cake recipes from his Cakelove cookbook. That and my Maida Heatter's cake cookbook are basically like dessert bibles at our house. I made a strawberry buttercream icing by adding fresh pureed strawberries to my basic buttercream recipe. It was a nice color and flavor, but not overwhelming.

My favorite strawberry cake comes from a box. Strawberry cake box mix plus a cup of sour cream, some oil, some eggs, and some strawberry extract. It tastes like a strawberry milkshake

I made a banana bread with chocolate chunks and it might as well have been cake!
I'm trying this one next: http://addapinch.com/cooking/the-best-chocolate-cake-recipe-ever/

My go-to cake recipe is a box of Pilsbury mix with an extra egg (4 instead of the 3 called for in the instructions). It never fails me and always turns out way moister than anything I've made from scratch.
For my nephew's birthday cake a couple of weeks ago, I made devil's food cake and topped it with the Wilton chocolate buttercream recipe. If you do the chocolate icing, use the melted chocolate instead of cocoa powder. It makes a world of difference.

I made this weelicious birthday cake recipe for C's birthday- the only from scratch cake I've made that I thought was better than the box.

I did a whipped cream cream cheese frosting, pretty light and not tons of sugar.
But the last actual birthday cake I made from yellow cake from the box, for Dh.

My go to yellow cake recipe is from smitten kitchen. I have made it as cakes and cupcakes with a variety of icings- really good! http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2009/07/best-birthday-cake/
