I'm a little over 6 weeks and have been hit with horrible nausea. Nothing ever sounds good to eat but if I don't eat I get really sick.
What worked for you? I never had this with my son so this is all new to me and it really stinks!

aww I'm sorry love!
this is what worked best for me - this tea right away in the morning with a little raw honey. http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/pregnancy/morning-wellness-tea.html
Also try grating some fresh ginger into boiling water to make ginger tea, add a little raw honey and drink that. Not delicious but it works! It's a healthy version of ginger ale.

I didn't get terrible nausea but when I felt off I chewed crystallized ginger. You can also boil water and pour it over a few pieces and sip, then eat the ginger. It helped with my mild nausea and major heartburn. I never went anywhere without it until after she was born!

Anything ginger made it a bit more bearable. The morning sickness lollipops that they sell and also chewing gum seemed to help. It was the worse feeling and really turns me off to
Getting pregnant again! I had it for all my pregnancies

B6 and fried foods of all things helped me! Hope you feel better!

b6 + 1/2 tab of unisom (not the gelcap). saved me through both pregnancies!
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
For the unisom, isn't that a sleeping aid? So should you take that at night or take it in the morning? I've hesitated to take it because I wasn't sure when to actually take it.

Zofran. Period. I live, eat, and breathe by the stuff. I don't go anywhere without it.

@MrsKoala: I take a half tab and 50mg b6 both at bedtime. Helps me sleep and works like a dream for the nausea! 2 in 1!
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@Ash: Ok thanks!! I thought people were taking it during the day and I was worried about staying awake at work!
admin / watermelon / 14210 posts
@Ash: i took 50mg as well. tried all the other remedies including acupuncture and it's the only one that worked!

@Springtime: Yay! MrsBee's rec is what got me started and it's the same thing my midwife's office recommends.
honeydew / 7909 posts
@MrsKoala: I don't know if people do that or not.. I'm tired enough - don't need something adding to the mix! Hahaha!
I've tried to not take it and the nausea is still there so I know it's working!
@Mrs. Bee: yes! This combo is genius!

I never let my stomach get totally empty. I felt so much less sick if I kept small carb loaded snacks on hand, paired with a protein I could tolerate. Peanut butter crackers, goldfish crackers, etc.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
Re the unisom-- my midwife told me to take it at night and that it would continue helping in the morning. I only took it a few times and can't say whether it really helped or not-- I was so paranoid about it, even though EVERYONE including my midwife said it was 100% fine.
For me, keeping bland food in my stomach at all times was the biggest thing. Like, never, ever be separated from you snacks, even if it's just cheerios in a baggy in your purse and next to your bed. The second you feel a twinge of hunger or nausea, have a little handful of cereal or saltines or ritz crackers. And get protein where you can tolerate it-- I felt better if I ate more protein but some just wasn't appealing. I lived on meatball subs for lunch for like 2 weeks straight.
Ginger chews helped too, even though they tasted kind of gross. Good luck-- hopefully it will be short lived.

Throwing up was the only thing that worked to make me feel "better" for the day, and it ended up being unavoidable about 10 minutes after getting up. Better is of course relative! After that I just did bland food, Sierra Mist (real sugar) and lemon lime Gatorade. It was never serious enough to me use rx needs.
For me Unisom and B6 did nothing. I had horrible stomach acid, so I tried a lot of antacids, eventually Prilosec worked, but we didn't get to trying it until 20 something weeks when the throwing up stopped.

Not much helped. The B6+Unisom combo made it a little better, but it would keep the puking to, say, 4x/day instead of 7. I ate bags and bags of animal crackers. They were the only kind of cracker that sounded good.

Saltines and applesauce, goldfish crackers at the bedside table to wake up to, crackers were definitely my best friend during early pregnancy.

Like @Ash & @Mrs. Bee I live by my unisom + B6. I had to up to a full tab of unisom and 50mg of B6, but I've been taking it since week 5 (I'm 12w) and I don't plan on quitting it until my nausea completely goes away!
I've had the ginger candies in my past pregnancy and those helped (Gin Gins) but they don't with this one.. the ginger just tastes weird to me this time around. But it could work for you! It's kind of spicy.
I eat 2 crackers before bed (like literally right before I pass out) and then 2 when I get up to pee in the middle of the night then 2 again when I wake up. It's either a Ritz cracker or saltine but I swear this helps me get through the worst parts of my nausea (evening and am)
Also, if I ever have a small craving for chicken or eggs or cheese, I'll eat it. The protein really sticks with me and helps for the rest of the day. It's rare that I'm craving those things these days, though =( It's mostly mexican food and flaming hot cheetos haha.

@Springtime: I felt the same way. So nauseous that nothing sounded good or smelled tasty ever. I suggest eating cold, 'watery' fruit like grapes and canned peaches. While they are sweet, they didn't bother me so much when they were cold. They were my main diet in the first trimester. And they aren't too bad for you!
I also could eat Nacho Cheese Doritos for some reason and be ok with that...not sure if you want to go there, though haha!
Good luck! Know that it will pass soon.

B6+Unisom, taken at night, will increase appetite and decrease nausea vomiting the next day. I am almost 24 weeks and if I don't take it at night, I still have no appetite the next day and usually vomit about 24 hours after the missed dose. I had HORRIBLE nausea and vomiting in the first trimester. Hang in there - it gets better!

I had horrible morning sickness in my first trimester. The only thing that helped with Zofran. I would not have been a functioning member of society without it!

I non-stop ate saltine crackers. I would go through 2-3 sleeves a day! I would eat them verrryyyy slowly to make sure my stomach was never empty

Grazing. I just kept eating small amounts of food all day. I had dry Cheerios in a container by my bed to snack on overnight and before I got up. Then grazing all day, mostly carbs and whatever sounded slightly appealing. I couldn't tolerate a full stomach so meals were very small but frequent. Also no belts or waistbands or anything that would put pressure on my abdomen.
Hang in there!

Ugh I remember those times. It was awful. I always carried ginger candy with me and that helped the nauseousness.
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
Never let your stomach be empty, EVER! I had cheerios everywhere. In my purse, bedside table, etc.
Protein right before your usual nausea times also helped me the second time around! If you can stomach it, that is...!!

Honestly, nothing cured it completely, only took the edge off to the point I could half-way function. Miserably, but function. Taking B6, Ginger Pill & Unisom (took one pill at night since I needed to be awake during the day) along with Zofran (lifesaver) helped some. Like others have said, don't let your stomach get empty, ever. As disgusting as eating may sound, try & find the lesser of the evils & eat a bit of it. For me, cheese & crackers, dried fruits, cashews, apples helped.

Last pregnancy I was fine as long as my stomach was full. This time meds are the only thing that helps.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
Cracker or a granola before sitting up out of bed, cool showers (the heat made me sick), gum immediately following meals (switch the flavor up) and eventually I had to get on Zofran due to weight loss, and it is the miracle drug.

Hot water with ginger. I sipped on it all day and it really helped!

I echo trying to keep something in your stomach at all times. I always had a bag of Cheerios and hard peppermint candies in my bag at all times. As far as real food went pretty much everything was unappealing...I managed plain noodles with a little bit of butter/parm cheese a few times, but the bulk of my diet was peanut butter sandwiches (sometimes with jelly).
