I never thought of it for the ride on trike we have! We use it (of course) for the bike seat and surprisingly since he won't wear any hat, he likes it! We don't really use the ride on trike that much. I make sure to always wear a helmet on our bike rides too to demonstrate its just what we do on our bike.

Helmet always.

I would, because I think it gets them used to the idea of a helmet and that you should always wear one when riding a bike! My son wore a helmet when he uses one of those.

I'd definitely get a helmet now. Can't remember what brand we got our son, but it's great. Semi-adjustable by turning a dial in the back. I can look up the brand later if you'd like.

Yes! We gave our DS a similar trike for his 2nd bday. I want him to know that he is expected to wear a helmet whenever he is on a bike. No helmet wearing= no bike time. Period.

I voted to wait - we didn't make our son wear one until we took off the restraints - but it does make sense to just start right away with "you wear your helmet on a bike". I would suggest that instead of ordering online you go to a bike store and get one fitted so you know it's the right size.

We have this one (in polka dots - it's adorable) for DD to ride in our bike trailer. She started wearing it at 12 months and it still fits great at 20 months (it's adjustable).

I would, but more so for establishing routines. DD had a similar trike (that I pushed the whole time). She's associated bike riding with helmets. She normally tries to weasel her way out of doing things (like wearing a jacket and mittens, for instance), but she has never argued about a helmet. It's one of those (few things) we can count as a parenting win

This hasn't occurred to me, but prob b/c DD doesn't have a trike. I feel like at 1 he has a long way to go to ride it on his own. But I do see everyone's point to just get him used to it now....

I think it depends on circumstance. I don't think I'd personally use a helmet with this because in our case, it would replace our stroller and I wouldn't be able to deal with putting a helmet on my kids every single time we left the house. But if it's for recreation and occasional use, then I'd do a helmet so that, like other's said, he gets used to the rule of using a helmet whenever he's on a bike!

For habit forming we make our kids wear a helmet when they are using anything with wheels recreationally.
